Default Uk Slk 230 R170

Quick question - do all UK spec R170 230s have Aircon with the climate? If so, how is it set to work - there isn;t obviously a button to press

My car seems to get really hot really quickly, and especially on the driver's side. In the car today, my brother driving was boiling and I was cold (especially my feet due to a raging draught) in the passenger seat. Any ideas? Thanks

I always assumed that all UK models came with aircon but the way to tell is do you have a button marked EC (middle button of 3 between the heater controls - see photo).

The EC stands for economy so when the light is on, the aircon is turned off...light off = aircon on.

The system also has dual-zone controls, were both of the rotary heat controls set to the same temp? I generally keep mine both in the middle of the white section with the fan on 1 to 2 and the Air Distribution Control set to the right so air comes out above and below the dash plus out the vents when you need it.

Cheers Damo. Yes, I have the EC button so AC - thanks for clearing that up

We didn't make it into the white zone (only blue) - we would have been turned into hog-roast! Might there be a fault with the system (hopefully easily rectified). I shall get the AC regassed when it warms up a bit as I can't see an AC service among the receipts that came with the car

It does sound like you have a problem then. This time of year the interior of my car is comfortable with the settings i mentioned and the aircon off and only gets toasty-hot when i turn the heater controls to full heat when it can get too stuffy quite quickly. With your controls on blue you shouldnt be getting any heat at all.

Hmmm. May need to take it back to the dealer to get it sorted - or I get it done and then bill him

you are better off taking it back to the dealer and give them a chance to repair it first if i were you.

Probably best, although there are good Merc specs closer than the dealer

Glad you got it sorted!

The aircon can get very cold so be prepared to wear a jacket when the summer arrives
