| Hi, I have just purchased a diagnostic tool! I used it on my girlfriends BMW and it worked perfect right away! I pluged it in my 98 slk230 and it did not work! There was no power in the tool!Do you have any idea what is going wrong!? Could it be a fuse or something!? I will appreciate your help! Thank you in advance!!! |

| the 98 should have the OBDII. and it should work fine. it sounds like there is a short out or the tool is not compatible with MB. Grab a flashlight and check the pins on the OBDII socket under the dash, just to make sure none are out of line. In NJ they connect some cars to OBDII during inspection. And a sloppy connection can get the pins out of wack. However R171 or basically any MB 2001+ i think is NEVER to be tested during state inspection with OBDII. THey were given specific instructions never to plug anything into the ports due to posibility of screwing something up in the car. Either way, first check the pins are ok on both harness and port. Next i would search online or in the manual to see if it is compatible with your SLK. OBDII usually does not have fuses or any of that as far as i know. Can you post up which OBDII scanner you have... model, brand... |

| EOBD is more my thing i don't really know much about the US OBD2 rules but Lenny looks to have got it covered here, the ports always share power so if you are not missing any devices the port should be powered.

| We have EOBD mate, very similar but with different rules that govern it. Although we call it OBD2 its not the same.

| Thanks for the quick responses! I dont think that the tool is short out, because I used it right after on my girlfriends BMW! This tool was sold to me like one that works on every OBDII car, which in US is every car after 1996! The tool is OBDRRO scantool I does look like there is not power in the OBDII port on the car! I did unscrew it from underneath the dashboard and looked alright! Is there any other way to find out ifthere is power in that port! Thank you for the activity ! |

| I have just used the tool on a 2001 Toyota Camry and it does work! So I think there is something wrong with my OBDII port ON the SLK! If somebody could tell me how to test that port I will appreciate it! Thank you! |

| I'd have to get the wiring diagram but i really can't think of a reason it would be unpowered. Might be time to break out a multimeter.
