H&R springs should firm up your ride a little, don't think you can do anything to the standard equipment.

This may be basic but try keeping your tire air-pressure accurate

This is odd. My wife selected our SLK 280. I frankly didn't expect much in the way of cornering ability. Yet, when I drove it, I found that it could perhaps out-corner my Honda S 2000, which is no slouch on corners. Indeed, cornering is the S 2000's forte. Compared therewith, the 280 corners flat.

This makes me wonder if something may be wrong with your SLK's suspension. The car should still be in warranty, so I would suggest having it checked out.

I have Brabus Sport Springs it lowers about 1" and not too much diference in ride...possibly slightly stiffer...switching to 18" or IMO 19" wheels and perf tires may help as well (great for look).

First off, the 280 is the lightest SLK in the US, that may factor into the 'better handling' dept. Also, do you have the sport package springs on the car?

To the original poster, there are several spring options available from the factory, and a lot of aftermarket choices now, do search on Brabus, KW, H&R.

I believe KW V3 and Bilstein PSS9's are the best coilovers you can find for the car. If you just want lowering springs there's H&R. I believe those are the best for springs. My Eibachs are more for show than anything. S2K's are amazing on track. Took me almost 11 laps to chase one down at the track. (Traction control kept slowing me down so when I finally turned it off, I was able to pass after a few pressure laps)

Cyberdrakon:

As far as I know, our SLK 280 does not have sport springs. I know there is no "sport package" or AMG package on it. Nonetheless, it corners very flat. Compared with what? Compared with my Honda S 2000.

Wow dolebludger...you must have gotten the track special 280...better handling than S2000 honda, and acceleration on par with a 350....

I earnestly don't know what I've got, or why. Forums like this one have many posts by owners who feel their particular car runs sub-par. What I'm saying is that I drove many 280s in my search, and bought this one new sight unseen, and find that it performs a bit better than other 280s I experienced. I'm not bragging, as I had nothing to do with it. I'm just happy.

Why, sure I will! If anybody from this board is ever in the Oklahoma City area, give me a call at 405 787 2810, and we'll get together. Now don't expect the steering to be as precise as on an S 2000 (as nothing else is, IMO). But the 280 does corner flat.

Saw this on eBay... Intrax makes springs for our R171. Lowers 1.3" to 1.5". Bit lower than H&Rs. Definately more agressive than Brabus/Eibach.

Selling for aout $120. Definately cheaper than the rest too.
