Default COMAND Mp3 playback on DVD+RW

Hi,

I have just tried to burn a disk of Mp3s onto a DVD for playback in my SLK350 (R171) COMAND. I am using Roxio Easy DVD Creator as my burning software.

However, when I put the disk in, I just get 'DVD Error' up on the screen. I have tried inserting a film DVD and this works fine.

Has anyone else experienced this? Does anyone know what the solution might be?

Thanks,
Jim

Jim, It works with my car but with a regular CD RW disc rather than a DVD.

You can make an mp3 disc out of a regular 700MB or 800MB disc with 400+ music.

I have created a DVD of music using Roxio, but it was a DVD-R. Not sure if it works with a +R. You might try a -R.

I also had to change the type of DVD to -R, it works perfectly now and I dont feel the need to have an iPOD connection. However, I must admit that it was not easy to find the right disc at the beginning.

On my command, the DVD is declared as Error after having inserted it.

However, i find in the audio menu : radio / mp3 / CDC.
If i select the mp3, i can find the folder and mp3 title from the DVD.
Have your tried it?

Actually Alroumi, the COMAND system CAN play DVDs. I currently have a dual layer DVD-R in there with MP3s.

You see I have never inserted a DVD in the single cd slot, I was just mentioning that MP3's work on a regular non DVD disc.

Thank you for the information Cyber, appreciate your input.

Important thing : if you create a CD or DVD with folder organization, only folders with mp3 files will appeared.

Seems some of you are luckier than me - I get the DVD Error message, but when I go to the Audio menu, I only get Radio and Aux as options (I do not have a CD changer.)

I might have to go to my dealer, plead it doesn't work and see if they will discount me an iPod kit!

I also used DVD -R, I used Nero to burn all my DVD, no problems at all.

2005 SLK-350 - I just burned a 8.5GB Dual Layer DVD+R MP3 disc with Toast for OSX (Mac). 1,129 songs appear with ALL ID3 Tags (Song, Artist, Album, etc.). Quite honestly, I find it difficult to actually believe I need my ipod in the car! :-) COMAND works very well and lists everything.

How long does the system take to load the metadata for those 1000+ songs?

Default Tried changing to DVD-R

Hi,

I have tried changing to DVD-R, burning using Roxio, but still no luck. I only have folders of MP3's on the disk and it reads perfectly in Windows so what is the problem? Grr....

Just been quoted £338 by the dealer to fix an iPod kit. Seems a bit steep when a DVD mp3 disk should do the job properly.

Any other ideas anyone?

Cheers,
Jim

Jim - as a sanity check, have you tried using the same Roxio settings with a CDR? Price on the iPod kit does sound high, but I'm assuming that includes labor. It's actually not a difficult install, and if you do decide to go down that route, drop me a PM - I've decided not to use the MB kit and go with a Denison Gateway 500.

Gang....

Doesn't it require a particular version of Comand firmware to play MP3s?
Also, there is something in the engineering menu that enables MP3 playback. Could it be disabled in some people's cars? I haven't spent much time on this, but mine also did not play the one DVD-RW I tried in it, a DVD I have been using in another car without problems. It might be a DVD-R vs RW thing though, I haven't spent any time on it.

Note: BiigJiim, since you don't have the CD Changer, you have a couple of iPod options. Once of the expensive parts about the iPod interface is the install. It's a big of a big job since you have to remove Comand and the centre console. You "can" do it yourself if you are handy.
The Dension GW500 is an option for you that connects where your CD changer would be.

The thing that sucks about the Mercedes unit is nothing is displayed on the Comand, it's only displayed in the instrument cluster and controlled by the steering wheel controls. The thing that sucks about the Dension is it only displays in Comand, not in the instrument cluster. (well, actually, it does display in the cluster, but only says things like "Track 1", which is sort of useless.) It's too bad there isn't an option that does both.

Good Luck!

Dang

i used sonic/roxio to burn a dvd of mp3s using the jukebox selection but even a data disk should work.and it worked on my prior 05 slk 350.
