What year? 2005 plus SLK with 82,000 miles. Miles or kilometers? That's got to be a record. Never heard of one with that much mileage. If it was a lease, I'd hate to see what the person paid for the residual mileage. Price is good, mileage is way high, particularly for a SLK. Average of 28,000 miles per year is reasonable for other vehicles, but again high for a 2005+ SLK. Depends on options, condition, and if all required maintenance has been complied with. Good luck with your decision.

I would personally go for a lower mileaged SLK,just to be in the safe side. Then again having to look at lower numbers gives you the slight impression of being in a close to new car.

I would personally advise you to wait a couple of months until the face-lift slk arrives and then the current 05,06,07 offerings might take a slight hit, where you benefit from lower prices for low-or regular mileage'd SLK's.

Then I assume 82,000 miles is correct? As a comparison, we purchased my wife's 2006 SLK 350 used in Dec 05 with 944 miles. Purchased my 2005 SLK 55 used in March 07 with 4811 miles. I wouldn't consider the SLK you're looking at due to the mileage. Many more available in the low 30k with 75% less mileage. Key would be maintenance on this vehicle. Have you checked the warranty book for completed maintenance? Overall condition and key options would also be a factor. The burgandy color, Firemist red is one of my two favorite colors.

yah the maintenance cost would be huge since this slk is overly abused. i think i will passed this one and keep looking for a new one...oh yeah my son said he received a call from the dealer and they said that they could lower this slk to $25k if we buy it right now...

Couldnt you explain this situation to your son, He would listen to you as his father because after all he wants to please his family and rather than just fulfilling his short term "want" for an SLK, its not like he would kill himself to get one.

Re-assurance is a vital determinent for a consumer such as yourself or lets say your son, by simply asking you,his friends about the 82k mile SLK I am sure he will think of the situation in a different viewpoint.

Sorry if I went offtrack slightly, but the idea's just kept flowing and I wanted to type them before they evaporate

I agree with -1- and Mohammed. Mileage is too high. I would allow approx. 15K miles/year. Always ask that an extended warranty be thrown in if possible.

sssmasss --- what country do you live in ---- the price varies greatly ----- if the car has a good service history ,and the miles are mostly highway then ask for a much lower price if its an 05 thats 28k+ miles per year but if driven right and taken care of these cars can go to 200k miles.
I always say if it doesn't feel right --don't do it

With that kind of mileage in such a short time, the previous owner had to have a long and regular commute...which means they were most likely highway miles, not as bad for the car as short stop and go drives. As long as all maintenance schedules were carefully followed and fully documented, i'd buy it if i got a good price. Try for less than $25,000.

I doubt it. I find most MB owners are not track enthusiasts. If it were a Porsche or BMW, perhaps a bit more likely. High mileage in cars like an Evo or STi would be a big concern. I'm betting that SLK was a commuter car or maybe a retiree. Just look at how many miles Cruzer has put on their car mainly due to traveling.

I agree, not many MB track junkies, it's funny when people tries to sell their Porsches and BMWs, you will almost always see "never tracked" on their listing, you don't see that at all on MBs listings.

I would pass, 82K miles on a MB is a lot and probably out of warranty, I can't imagine how much it would cost to start changing out parts. Brakes rotors, pads, calipers can be done if you are a hands-on DIYer but other engine components might not be so easy. I don't think anyone has such high miles, you might want to ask Dan what needs to be replace with that kind of mileage.
