OBD-2 Reader Recommendation

I am a new owner of a 1998 SLK 230. I would like to purchase a OBD-2 Reader to verify why the "check engine" light is on. I plan to spend time working on the car and figure it would be a good investment. I would like to purchase an inexpensive model. Does anyone have any recommendations?

I use the Innova 3100 made by Equuis. I've been very happy with it.
