Default Car cover

Hi everyone, I am now the proud owner of a 12 day old SLK 350 and I need some advise please.

My SLK is parked in the open at night and a cat has already found a home on the hood everynight so I have purchased a Merc car cover. I was wondering if continued use will leave scratches on my SLK. Is there things I should not do i.e. car cover on dirty car etc?

Tks!

Hi =)

Ther e is a sort of clearcover plastic film that you can attach to the hood to prevent "rockshootings" from other cars, The bodyshops often knows who to contact,
At first they clean and wax the car, then plut the plastic clearcover on for protection.
So i think that would be a great idéa, and the just use the cover normally.

Hello.

This wouldnt happen to be the purpose made fitted SLK car cover thats normally only available in the U.S.A. would it? If it is, could you post the part number by any chance?

Thanks.

I have also purchased a car cover for my SLK. To tell the truth, i was forced to!! You see, all the birds in the neighbourhood love my SLK, and they grant my car with their waste!

So, my opinion is to have your car washed - clean whenever you cover your car, in order to avoid any scratch from dust! At least, this is what i do in mine with no issues.

Hello fellow SLK member I've got the same thing with the street cats just laying around on my cars hood, I got feed up right now from their paws all along my cars paintjob. I've purchased the car cover this summer and hopefully it might do the trick.

Hi all,

Tks for the response. I have the fitted Merc car cover and make sure I clean the car once a week (a good 4 hour wash and polish) and only then put the cover on. What I have noticed is a few very fine surface scratches on the hood and roof and I am sure the car cover has done this.

Is this my imagination or should I be seriously worried? I do not want to continue using the car cover if it will scratch the paint.

Damn cats!

I don't know what they have in Japan, but some good wax/Zaino Z5 should get rid of the very fine scratches or make them less observable.

Make sure the inner surface of the car cover (the part that comes in contact with the paint or clear coat) is clean and relatively free of dust and that there are no rivets or metal-lined eyes on the edges of the car cover (use adhesive felt pad to cover the metal parts if needed). Use an air compressor if available. I remember following a routine when removing the car cover (LONG time ago).

It goes like this:

I loosen all 4 corners (the car cover had garters at the corners) and fold lengthwise towards the roof and centerline of the car, with the clean side now facing outward, first on the right half and then the left half. The car cover will now look like a long pastry roll along the center of the car. Roll from front to back so it forms like a rolled up sleeping bag. Now the car cover is ready to be stored in the trunk/boot. To put on the car cover, I follow the reverse order.
