| Dear super pros of SLKworld, I come humbly with these questions.. ![]() 1.I'm looking into getting a new grille, I prefer the look of the new C class grilles, with three bold chrome edges. Suggestions? 2. I want to replace the kind of lame looking stock headlights with an aftermarket lamp assembly, and I'd love to get some recommendations/ horror stories. I'm leaning toward projector beams with the BMW style halos. I've been looking on eBay, but some of the lamps have halos that don't light up fully, which would be very undesirable. They seem to have some metal connecting piece that prevents a full circular halo. Also, is this a reasonable DIY project? I'm not very mechanically inclined but I can figure things out. 3. Are rusted lug nuts covered by the Mercedes CPO warranty? 4. How does the cheap wind deflector on eBay compare to the more expensive ones being sold in online stores? 5. Anyone know of roof rack possibilities for the R170 SLKs? The owner's manual tantalizingly describes optional roof rack slots and lists a roof cargo capacity, yet google searches reveal nothing. Is this something a deal can do after the fact? Or are there aftermarket racks I can use? I want to be able to take skis/snowboards up to the slopes this winter on my baby! Thanks guys, in advance, for the deluge of response that must be sure to follow. Very helpful site. Stay strong admin Bill! Screw the man. |

| Hmm. The roof rack im not to sure off, i know you can get racks to go on your trunk. I really dont think attaching anything to the roof would be a good idea. Just because if you ever need or want to put the top down, you have to take every little peice off to it will fit properly when folded. Halo eyes on the 170? Really? I dunno. IMO it would look better with just HID's, and or maybe some new lamp assemblies, but i dont think i ever saw any. (BMW styled halos on MB? ........ i dunno how that would look, try getting something more like the 171's assembly). I use the stock mesh wind deflector that came with my car. Altho you cant see as well, it only somewhat disrupts the view. im used to it now, so i see fine outta it. For me it works fine enough, and i dont see the sense in spending hundreds of dollars on a clear fiberglass peice for my car, if i was that desperate, i would mold one myself and figure out how to strap it on. But that would be to ghetto for a MB. I dunno if i helped you at all as i really dindt give TO much info, but at least its an answer! ![]() P.S. How could the ebay ones be so much worse than ones on sights, even if they are "not as good" i mean its just stopping air, any solid material will do really, duck tape some cardboard! ![]() There are several grills out for the 170, i dont think a C classes would fit tho. Im not to sure of sites that have them, but someone will chime in and post some links, theyre pretty good about it here. Did you buy your car form a MB dealer, since its CPO? How long have you had the car now, i think if you complain enough they will do something, I would of made them change it at time of purchase if i saw them. If not, maybe go ot the dealer and make some noise. You might get lucky and get them for nothing, but i cant imagine they would cost all that much anyway. Maybe one of the 170 people with aftermarket rims may have an extra set laying around for ya. |

| Search the R170 gallery. IIRC, there was one who changed the grille. See if you like the look/appearance. Bazzle & others from Oz, and Tslick may be good sources to ask about the R170.
