| I just bought an 08 SLK350 in Arctic White a couple of days ago and for the life of me can't figure out how to change the setting so that the passenger side mirror automatically tilts downward when I am in reverse. I just upgraded from a 2006 SLK350 in diamond silver (totaled ) and remember that the 06 did it so I would hope that my 08 can do it as well. Any help would be greatly appreciated Thanks in advance. |

| In the lower center console, press on the left mirror button but it has to be set to tilt first IIRC, not sure if it's the same for the '08 models, Here's a online pdf owner's manual. http://www.billsden.org/fileadmin/me...wners_2006.pdf And welcome to the forum.

| i think he means so it does it automatically when he puts it in reverse. Go into your preferences things, like comfort settings (in the middle screen on your dash) Think its easy reverse, or back up guide, something like that, youll know it when you see it. Turn it ON. And you should be set. |

| I do not see this feature on the 2008 model year. The owner's manual has no mention of this and in the Convenience Menu, there is no submenu for the "Parking Mirror Assist" or something similar, it only has the Easy Entry/Exit feature.

| Thank you for the help everyone! I will try to look on the console again. I was in there for half an hour last night trying to find it in settings and probably spent another half hour looking through every page of the owners manual trying to find it. I'm going to call the dealership today as a last resort. I really hope they did not take that feature away for 08. That made it so easy to parallel park I'm the typical girl, that type of parking has never been my strong point. |

| One can always do it manually. IIRC, my 1998 E class uses the following method: (Warning: Do this only in an open level area, like an empty parking lot) 1. With foot on the brake pedal and the brake engaged, put the transmission on R. 2. Press the exterior mirror switch on the center console to choose the passenger side exterior mirror. 3. Adjust the passenger sided exterior mirror with the lever to the desired position for parking assist. 4. Press the M button (do not press any of the numbers after pressing the M button). <memory feature for the seats and mirrors> 5. Bring the transmission to P. 6. The passenger side exterior mirror should return to the upright position from the parking assist mode. Try to put the vehicle in reverse (transmission on R ) with the passenger side exterior mirror switch chosen, after the above procedure to see if the parking assist feature works, i.e., the passenger side exterior mirror moves downward. If nothing happens then this feature is not present. I'll try to do the above procedure to see if it works later tonight and report back.

| It's much simpler than that, you have to enable it in the convenience menu IIRC. Then it does it automatically, so long as the passenger mirror button is lit up, which is pretty much what ynot said. It is automatic, but you still have to have the passenger mirror selected. That's deliberate so you can override it just by pressing the driver's mirror switch if you need to. |

| Thank you everyone! I contacted the dealer and they said that they took that feature off most models in 06. I am so sad about that, but I guess I'll get over it since its a great car otherwise |

| Seems very odd, because it can only be a trivial software function where all the necessary hardware components to make it work are already in place. The benefits of removing it would appear to be non-existent since there is no cost saving involved, and it's hardly a safety issue. While I love my car, this kind of thing is something I really don't like about Mercedes-Benz as a company. They sometimes seem to have little regard for their customers opinions, always thinking they know better, or can dictate to the customer without any consequence. This is one example, another would be the insistence on displaying km/h in the instrument cluster lower display in the UK, even though there is no legal basis for such a decision. What they don't seem to realise is some issues that they perceive as unimportant and minor do actually have significance to their customers. |

| It can also come down to saving/moving features to more upscale cars in their line. Rate the SL as faster, give it a SC, better/bigger brakes (now). Who would still by the new 63 if the motor was also available in the SLK? *sigh* |

| If that's what they're trying, it's going to fail miserably. Models get to be upscale by the addition of hot new features, not by deleting well-established old features from lesser models. This will only result in disappointed customers taking their money elsewhere. |

| I think some features are removed based on customer input/complaints/wants. We just don't know globally how many customers send their comments to Mercedes Benz, either directly or via the service departments. I know of someone who "hates" the parking assist feature. He asked me how to disable it and I told him to simply choose the driver side exterior mirror on the center console button and the passenger side exterior mirror shouldn't move down when he puts the car in R (transmission). My preference on this feature is to leave it on since the customer/consumer can disable it if so desired. I wonder if there's a way to enable the software without reverting to an earlier version of the operating software.

| That depends on the settings, i will take a look and find out. Its probably gone with a new software release. I don't think you can down-grade the combi anyways mate otherwise that would be an option, no harm in running an older release so long as its stable.
