Question Tints Poll? Yes Yes once again..

I am still tring to decide on how dark to make my tints...
On my R170 (black on black) i had 35% and thought it was too light (no tickets)
On my W209 (black on ash) i had 20% and thought it was ok (got a ticket)

Keeping in mind my car is black on red

So i was thinking maybe put 20% on the back and little windows and 35% on the front to reduce chances of tickets...

What to do... what to do...?

Also if anyone has pics of a black on red combo with tints... please post. Thanks

35%, because you'll have the roof retracted and the windows down probably at least half of the time anyway.

Actually when I have the top down ... my windows are usually up ...

Thats why I haven't tinted my windows yet. I was thinking that when the top is down it would be extremely noticable.

For a black/red car ... I would suggest lightest tint in front and 35% in rear.

Is lower % darker tint? Here in Sweden it's OK to have any kind of tint if you only have it behing the B-pillows. Not on front window and not on the front door windows. I'm not sure how they react on a SLK which only have two doors. If it's OK to tint the door windows also. Otherwize you only can tint the rear window.

In the US, and i think everywhere else as well.. the % indicates how much light is let through.... so a 35% tint would only let 35% of the light through and so on... after 35% tint you start noticing the shades changing drastically. So the 20% is a noticable amount darker.

I think the law actually states that you can not have tints on the Drivers and front Passenger's windows. Does not matter how many doors or windows you have. They actually base it on your outside mirrors. You can not block visibility to them. Not sure if the government understands the driver's mirror tints on its own in many cars. - This is the law in NJ. But i think it applies to all no tint places.

Nothing darker than 35%. That's a medium tint. In most states it's (35%) illegal on the front windows. Anything darker and you're asking for trouble. I have two vehicles with 35% all around. The SLK is tint free. For most of the summer months, the top is down (and windows) and tint isn't an issue. I'm curious, how can the rear window be tinted? It's difficult enough to clean.

Thank's for the info noregret4life.
What you are saying is that you can only tint the rear window on a SLK. Will that look strange or not? I have seen many pictures of SLKs with window tint all around exept front window. Such tint jobs looks very nice.

Thanks for all your replies. I think i am going to tint it with 35%. I think a dark color car, such as mine, looks great with a tint. I had the 35% on my R170 and looking over the old pics, it looks just right. I like the reflecting look off the windows when there is a tint.

It depends on what you are going for. Here in South Florida, dark tint helps the AC with getting the temp down quicker. Our law states you can only have 30% or more light showing through the front, and 20% on the back. I went with 20% all around for 2 reasons:

1. I have the ash interior which makes the tint look much lighter, and I would rather not have some of the criminals here in Miami see if I left a CD or package in the interior and break a window.

2. Without a front blocker (which can be a pain,) the wood on the steering wheel becomes untouchable with lighter tint.

The police here travel with measuring devices, but they have not tested my car, even when I'm next to them with the windows up. Visually, the interior lightness makes them think it is the 30%.

The LS430 is going in to have it's 30% changed to limo tint all around (10% or less?) as the black leather fries you. No one notices that car anyway.

PS: Because my car has Florida plates, I do not have any problems when travelling through other states. Especially when I'm going north through the "Cocaine Highway" (I-95 Miami to New York) and always get pulled over in Georgia to have the drug dogs sniff, they never test or make a comment.

Hey, Maybe you can keep dog treats in your trunk... might as well be friendly with the pooch if you get stopped anyway.
