Default Aftermarket Bluetooth options

For those without factory Bluetooth, there are many aftermarket options. One is Parrot. I've seen it advertised on eBay along with a Motorola kit. I've held off, but found some new information this evening.

-1- i did have a look around the site and nowhere can i find and info about where this is supposed to connect i guess it would attach at the head unit but the connectors they are showing in the pic are either not for attaching to the head unit itself and the ones with the pins hidden in the background are or this kit wont fit the car because the size of all the MB connectors they are showing is well off the actual connectors size.

I don't have the phone on mine because i ordered the car when no bluetooth was available so it was the MB phone that i would have got and i did not fancy that so i would find a kit like this quite useful if it would add bluetooth and would also save me messing about retrofitting the phone that has a ridiculously stupid harness but from what i have seen this wont fit.

Since it looks like you are keeping an eye on it do you have any other info about it, i might drop the people who make it an e-mail and see what they say or something.

Cheers

Dan

Dan,

When I went to the site, there were a couple of connectors for the Benz. Another sef of connectors looked smaller and less complex.

I've tried to attach that picture.

Dan, I don't have any further information on this product other than what's provided at the web site. There are several Mercedes harnesses depending on radio. The Harmon Kardon system could be a problem with this kit. Conflicting information regarding this system on their site. If it will work with our cars, it would be a deal at $300. I'll contact them on Monday for a clarification. -1-

OK thanks guys.

Got a small pic of the COMAND MOST plug and as i am sure you will be able to tell it looks way different from the few harnesses they are showing.

You have the two MOST line interfaces and the then 4 pins and thats all.

Only other place i can think of where you might be able to connect a harness is at the audio gateway but i cant find a harness that looks like it would fit there either.

Hold on. DansSLK and I are corresponding with Parrot Kits to determine if this setup will work with the SLK. Should know something soon. I'll post the results.

I haven't heard back from Parrot Kits. DansSLK is suspect whether this will work with the SLK. It's the manufacturers responsibility to makes sure everything works as advertised. In my correspondence with them, they appear less than confident. Many different connectors, Command HK system vs Audio 20, how and where to connect? Something will eventually become available.

Default Finally, a fix for the faux pas Mercedes made!

Hopefully this will fix the problem for those of us that want bluetooth without being forced to purchase the Command head unit (which I refuse to do). I am not very impressed with the navigation system either.

There are some other very impressive solutions depending on what you want to do without getting the COMAND unit. Somewhere, either on this forum or another SLK forum, someone described a very impressive double din sized, touch screen, GPS, Bluetooth system from Pioneer. However, I'm not sure if that model is available in the US. You might want to poke around and see if that is something you might like instead of COMAND.

The radio you're referring to is the Pioneer AVIC-Z1. Possibly one of two or three of the best multifunction radios currently available. Double DIN with a seven inch touch screen, AM-FM, CD, DVD, MP3, GPS with a hard drive. You can add either Sirius or XM satellite radio with NAV traffic, iPod adapter with full display and control of your iPod, and a Bluetooth adapter for full display and control of calls. I have an older (18 months) version, the AVIC-D1 in another vehicle. You can find the AVIC-Z1 on (eBay) for around $1500, XM tuner is around $140, Bluetooth is $125, iPod is about $90. You could adapt to the SLK with the new Metra double DIN kit. You would have to run new speakers and wire. MB uses fiber optics.

Yep, that's the model I was thinking of.

ooh... I hadn't realized about the wiring. That wouldn't be so much fun running new wires.

Thanks to -1-, I purchased CP-147 and CK3000 from Parrot, and ask local parrot dealer installed for me. It works perfectly, you can use telephone on/off button also volume +/-, the sound quality is good. Only you can't use phone list from command center.

the new Pioneer AVIC-D3 is also quite impressive and is already available for as little as $799. I'm most likely going to throw one in my commuter car for the NAV, iPod and Bluetooth functionality.
