Question HID kit choices

I am starting to read up on HID conversion..next planned mod for my 2006 SLK350. Found ghostdunks excellent writeup, very helpful. Noticed he chose a kit from http://www.mobilehid.com/, they seem to run about $225.

Besides that, I found these two on eBay:
1) Very non-descript kit for $179 from this seller.. wondering if it has any english instructions.
2) MTEC kit for $280 from this seller.

Does anyone have any experience with either eBay kit? Any pros and cons that you know of between the two eBay kits and the one from MobileHID?

I'll also want to match the color temp of the fogs and parking lights (HIDs color temp preference will be around 6000K-6500K), but I guess that is independent of what kit I'll end up going with.

Thanks!

I did a follow up to ghostdunks writeup, I bought the MTEC kit from ebay, was the best plug n play kit. If you get option 1, you will have to insert resistors to avoid the error that will show up.

my writeup with the MTEC kit :

Excellent writeup. You sold me on the MTEC kit since it avoids the resistor stuff. Thanks!

I've heard good things about the MTEC kit, so that should be a safe bet.

With the other kits, its luck of the draw whether or not you have to 1) use resistors or 2) get the setting changed to HIDS=Present on the computer. I got lucky with mine and didn't have to do either, but I've seen some other kits with similar specs which started strobing without further modification.

I agree, his writeup is pretty good....I loved reading his writeup and seeing what he experienced as well.

i installed 2 MTEC kits on my 2006 IS350 (main and fogs). 3 years later they're still going strong.

Probably going to change main bulbs to MTEC 6000K bulbs, and also install an MTEC kit for the fogs.

It's a lot of time and trouble to install these HID kits, I'd rather spend a little more and get it right the first time, rather than spending more time and money to get the less expensive kits to work. Time is money.....

I have a direct link, via msn to an ebay seller.

prices are as follows.

for a basic kit $60 delivered!

if you want a 55w kit add $10

if you want slim digital ballasts - digital prevents warning lights! add $20.

So $80 delivered.

I have bought many of the so called rubbsh chinese supplied kits and have never had a problem. I think I am on my 10th kit between different cars. They are so cheap I don't bother to remove them when I sell my cars.

If anyone wants the msn contact for this guy, let me know.

btw. replacement bulbs if you want to change the colour temp at $14 a pair delivered.

fwiw I would ONLY ever fit 4300K having read an article I was linked to on here.

Adam, do you still have your used factory bi-xenons light assemblies available? You were asking a fair price for the real thing and that would be my first choice versus an aftermarket kit. Plus it's an easy retrofit for USA version SLKs.

yes I do.

think it's still in the for sale section.

Can get it shipped fairly easily via john to the US and from then on he can handle domestic transfer if it suits the buyer.
