Front License Plate Mount No Drilling

So i was faced with a decision to buy the MB mount for the front of the car and spend $85 for something i didn't want in the first place... or come up with my own solution.

Well here it is. Total cost $6

Here are the parts:

Here you see the extender with all nuts,washer, and spacers attached. Left is the front where the plate is mounted. Right mounts to the grill.

Attached extenders to the lower mounting holes on the license plate and the plate is bent to curve around the nose of the front bumper:

Industial strength velcro attached to the top of the License plate:

Here is 1 of the rubber expanders inserted into the grill. The inside part is all rubber, and in the front there is a nut mounted:

This was the tough part. After attaching the screw rods, you have to drop the front cover of the bumper to get access to behind the grill. To Add the washer and back nut:

Leave the velcro on till the very last step. Make sure it all lines up, and then peal the velcro backings off to stick to the bumper:

And you are done:

Don't mind the nasty copper lower nuts on the above, i will get a nice black license plate holder and paint them black to match.

Nice idea but a low steed frontal crash could mean the end of your radiator...

I think if there is a low steed frontal crash, there will be more to worry about for the person doing the crashing... that boxcutter in the glovebox will come flying out ...

Actually not true FPF422. The rods are rather short to reach the radiator, and the rubber expanders are actually "floating" so to say. So they can be pushed inwards but not pulled out because of the washer. So if someone was to tap my plate in the front (say a parking situation) the mose that would happen is the velcro comes appart at the top, and the rods get pushed through my grill. Still not reaching the radiator though.

FPF422, you got me thinking about this, so i went out to test it... the rubber expanders just poped out of the grill inwards, and the velcro start to come undone... All good

I got these parts from Home Depot. I think the "bolt" is just called a Threaded rod, it is sold in various lengths and diameters (found it in the section right next to where the velcro strips were) and the "rubber exbanders" i think are called just that (can be found in the drawers in the isle with screws and bolts). I think i still have the wrapings at home with SKU numbers... can check later after i get out of work.

Rod is about $3 (1 is enough to make 2 rods) and the Expanders are $0.95 each i think (you need 4)

good work. I'm not sure if a front plate is required in texas, ive been stopped twice and they have never mentioned it. My english ignorance of local laws seems to work quite good here.

In Texas front plates are required by law.......but no one seems to have them on and most officers don't seem to be enforcing that law.

Same here, it's required by law but rarely ever enforces, I've driven over a decade w/o one with no tickets.
