| Dear All, This is a bit of an emergency post as I haven't got long to tweak my order before it starts getting built! To that end, I'll introduce me and the car properly next time. Firstly may I say what a great forum this is and I am particularly taken with the way people are so keen to help each other and indeed the level of knowledge that the contributors have. This really is the sort of thing the internet was designed for. Secondly, I appreciate that the question I'm about to ask has been thrown about A LOT on thses pages and I'm pretty certain I've read everything on the subject. That said, I am no closer to understanding the answers! So here it is... I am getting a brand spankers 2008/2009 model. From what I can gather, Mercedes has relented and installed Blutetooth hands free as a standard item on these new models. 1) Does the car come with microphones and speakers needed for hands free? From what I've read, earlier models did not as Bluetooth wasn't fitted as standard and you'd need lots of extras including a puck etc. 2) Would my phone calls be made through my phones antenna, or would it go through the car, getting its signal boosted along the way? 3) With the new Bluetooth fit, can I use the steering wheel controls and linguatronic to control my calls? 4) Will my text mesages appear on COMAND? Do I need SAP to achieve this? Because I read the threats about what a pain it is to install "Telephone Pre-Wiring" retrospectively, I decided to buy it as an option, just in case. 5) Was this a complete waste of money? With the new Bluetooth, surely the phone pre-wing/cradle system becomes redundant? If not, could someone please explain what the point of having it is. Specific answers to these questions and then any other information relating to the subject would be greatly appreciated. Others might like it too as there seems to be quite a bit of confusion on the subject. Phew. Sorry that was such a serious first post. Thanks for any help, Windy |

| Welcome Windy. Since you're talking about SAP, I presume you're in Europe. If you could update your profile (using UserCP at top row menu) this would help as the options are different in diff countries. Are you getting the facelift model? If you are, then bring in your mobile phone and try it on a demo model and see how it pairs with the MB phone system. Bluetooth functionality is built into the new Audio/COMAND unit in the facelift models. IIRC, it still uses the antenna in your mobile phone to send/receive calls.

| Well, seeing as it's going to be built next month, I very much hope that's it's the latest model on offer - i.e. with a facelift! I can't really get to the dealer at the moment - I'm currently enjoying a six month holiday in Iraq. By the time I get back, it'll be waiting for me, so I'm trying to get the answers beforehand.... |

| Yep, it's a European spec. Thanks for the quick replies. Just to be clear, I only ordered the pre-wiring. I would like to get the extra kit needed although a) I'm not sure where I get it from, as the extras brochure doesn't mention any of it and b) I don't know exactly what I need to get the gucci all-in-one hands free solution. Or indeed if I need it with the new models (hence the questions really!) Anyone else got some in depth answers for 1 - 5? |

| 1) Comes with all the crap 2) Using built-in BT then the call's are normally via your phone's antenna and the car acts as the headset, call's go via the car when you use a cradle 3) Yes 4) Never looked sorry 5) Prep for a cradle, not fitted with the BT system

| Thanks very much for the answers. So, if I've got things straight, because all the extra stuff is installed as part of the standard fit Bluetooth, to get the phone to use the cars antenna to boost the signal strength, I should only need to buy the correct cradle for my car and nothing else. Is that right? The questions are now.. a) If I buy the correct cradle for my car, can I use her antenna and signal boost? b) Does the new 2008/2009 standard fit Bluetooth include SAP, or do I need to get one of these: http://www.mercedes-benz-parts.co.uk...id=21&vmcchk=1 c) If I get the above cradle, will it just slot in as I have ordered the pre-wiring option. I am partiularly interested in SAP, so any details are greatly appreciated. Thanks again, Windy Last edited by Windy; 10-05-2008 at 04:21 AM. |

| To answer my own questions a) Yes b) No it doesn't. To use SAP you must buy the SAP cradle. c) Yes. As the car comes with Bluetooth Hands Free as standard, all the other options needed on top of 386 - Telephone Pre-Wiring are present. On older models, the SLK Class Completer Kit is needed aswell as 386. This thread can die a death now, as a more complete one with answers/findings exists at http://www.slkworld.com/general-modi...e-answers.html Windy |
