I want to upgrade my foglight to HID. I do have the lighting package but also installed smarttop module. I enable the Daytime driving light function which turn of the foglight. The turning on/off function no longer work on the foglight, so I think I should be ok to upgrade to HID. My foglight is a H7 but with a plug that resemble a 9006.. which kid should i order.. h7 or 9006? thanks

Here is the problem...

The bulb size you need is H7 for the upgrade, however you will also need a fitment adapter to get them to look like a "large 9006" socket.

Problem is that MB insterted an H7 bulb into an adapter , which then mates with the fog light socket. A 9006 bulb will NOT fit directly into the foglight.

You have 2 options:

1. Drill through your current adapters (all you really need is the front ring where the bulb goes) * Problem with this options is that if you mess something up or it cracks, you CAN NOT PURCHACE THIS ADAPTER ALONE. you will have to buy a whole new foglight at around $80

2. There is an adapter on the market to make this fit. The adapter is for H7 bulbs on the BMW HID upgrade. They have the same adapter, and the same issue as our foglights. I was able to find a seller on ebay who actually had a mold made and purchased a set from him for something like $10-15. I will need to do a search to see if i can dig up the seller's ID for you.

Once again... you will need an H7 kit, however you will need the above mentioned adapters in order to make it fit. Or you can drill your stock adapters. But THEY ARE NOT 9006.

I'll post up the seller's info as soon as i find it. Will also let you know if i don't

The E39 adapter looks like a match. Great find!

You may need to grind off the long tab a bit, but thats not an issue at all. A small file will do the job. Also, on the other 2 tabs you may also need to grind them down slightly to make a little ramp so it can screw into our foglights. They need this because the BMW taps are a bit thick. But not an issue at all.

Those adapters look great. Actually even better than mine!
I say go for it. Regardless you will need an H7 bulb HID kit.

One other thing i just noticed. The adapters look a bit long on the end where the bulb goes. When i compaired them to the pics of the holders in my HID tutorial, it looks like the bulb needs to be closer to the 3 tabs surrounding the adapter.

You may need to modify this as well. But again... a small saw and you can just keep trimming it till its the same size as your stock bulb holders
