Thumbs up New SLK roof module supplier

If anyone is interested there is a new supplier for the roof module on eBay.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/MERCE...QQcmdZViewItem

I purchase one from them and after they replace it (the first one was not working exactly as it was supposed to) now I can operate the roof up to 34mph and there are also two settings. You can switch from one to the other at a touch of a button. In the first setting you need to press the open (or close) button 3 times to lower (raise) the roof and in the second setting the roof will be lowered (raised) every time you open (close) the car. The second setting is probably helpful if you live in a constant warm weather area or you use the car only on nice weekends (none of which is my case but it's good to have the option). Also the customer support is beyond awesome and the price @ about $240 shipped is not too bad either.
I have no connection with this supplier whatsoever.

do you know if the installation of this or other modules nullifies the warranty as it relates to the operation of the roof?

With the piecha module, it can be deactivated and the module is invisible to Star Diagnosticswhen you bring the car in for service. (I am not familiar with the module than benz--man got).

Does this one, or the Peicha module, automatically LOWER the windows when the top is put down?

The piecha model doesn't lower the windows after the first three (unlock)presses. To lower the windows, one has to press unlock (on the SmartKey) three more times after the roof is lowered.

The module from tuning-concept installs and works the same as the piecha one except what I described in the first post. I have to check the trick with the additional 3 clicks for the windows as I was not aware of that and there was no mentioning in the manual.

Conexx one shows the windows going down with the top, in the animation.

3 more clicks? Can you queue them up? Like 6 clicks it will put roof down and windows right after?

Hell, I'd rather stand there and hold it then just give the one more press and hold to put them down of the premium package.

Are you sure?
www.r171.co.uk did not supply any roof modules as far as I know.
Also mine was shipped from California and it came with a "Made in USA" sticker.

Really? I found him hard to deal with in that his English isn't very good and it was hard getting him to understand exactly what I was asking for.

He has a pretty high rating on e-Bay, with like 500+ positives and only 1 negative.

Benz man, since mine will be coming from the same exact source as yours, could you give me any tips I should know before installing it?

RacerCub68, this module installs the same as the Piecha one.
You should not have the problems I had as they look to been taking care of everything now.

I got it today! The brand, if there is one, is: Luxury Car Tuning(tm)

Nice color manual. Makes it probably more simple than it really is. However, thanks for giving me that link again. I think that has the additional instructions I need because of my lighted door sills.

Too bad I have a C230 in the garage and not an SLK350. It appears they had to completely disasemble the drivers seat and are waiting on a new bottom frame for it. Who knows when I'll get it back?!?! Hopefully prior to this weekend so I can play.

Last night I confirmed that the "trick" with the 3 more clicks to lower the windows after the roof is down is also working on the Luxury Car Tuning(tm) / tuning concept roof module. I rarely to almost never drive with the windows down, but it's nice to know I have the option.

I hope you get the SLK before the weekend and that the MB dealer you're dealing with now is a lot better than your previous experience.

benz--man, how does the other feature work on this module? the one where the roof and windows go up(down) when you lock(unlock) the vehicle? How is this feature activated/deactivated? Just curious. (I have the piecha module).

It’s very similar to activating/deactivating the module, but you have to press the “make a call” button for 2 seconds. This switches between Mode1 and Mode2 (if the turning signal flashes once after you press the button you are in Mode1, if it flashes 3 times you are in Mode2). In one mode the roof goes down/up every time you unlock/lock the car with a single press on the remote key and in the other mode you need to press the unlock/lock button 3 times to lower/raise the roof. I do not remember which one was Mode1 and which one was Mode2, but it doesn’t matter. Even the manufacturer has them reversed in the manual.
I just realized that this might be an inconvenient if you have an integrated cell phone, but it’s not my case.

One of the interesting things the guy told me, he said that you do not have to DEACTIVATE the unit, the Star diagnostic won't see it even when it's active. I thought it might be another misunderstanding, but maybe that is why this module has a serial port on each end instead of the Piecha and other ones only having one port connector.

It's rare that they have my car for less then a week for anything. I got the loaner down to 5 miles left on the tank of fuel. ;-) I dislike that 2.5L V6 in the new C230's, it strugles to get 18 MPG where my car would get 22 or more, and it has far less power. I would have preferred a 1.8L Kompressor, but alas, we torque hungry Americans!
