Default Cup Holder alternative by MB

On my side, the cup holder has absolutely no use !

A solution : The MB P/N A17168000529116 : it will directly replace, and will provide a small area to store ticket, credit card , .... It costs 57€.

Packaging :

Top view :

Front view, closed :

Front view opened :

Side view opened :

Installation is easy. Remove the plastic cover

Unscrew the 2 screws

Remove the cup holder

Install the new part

Screw it

Put the plastic cover

FInal result : opened

Final result : closed

I have now to sell a cup holder ....

Thanks Michel. Mate likes her tea, and I occasionally bring coffee, so the cupholder stays.

This is however an alternative for those who don't want the cupholder.

@watsons : The order has been done directly to MB shop. I imagine that some web site should be able to sell it also.

@etyu : We do not use so much (in fact never) such things in France. Maybe we drive in a more "italian" way our cars ......... (not so smooth)

i love the ideas of have an storage area. I read another post about someone who made there own tray. it is way better it look like it fix right in.

One question: Can you put it on the bottom where the ash tray and lighter is? i don't smoke and would never allow anyone to smoke in my car so i have no use for it.

Is the space big enough to store sunglasses?

Our car's come standard with the cubby and while its not quite big enough to store most shades it does make a good spot to store smaller item's or in my case some displays

Even if i did drink in the car (which i don't) and i did have the cupholders i still would not use them, right below them i have a few k's worth of COMAND screen and then another k in control panel and climate display below that.

Not a chance in hell would i risk damaging them for a drink it's just not worth it.

I'm with Dan on this one.

Although the cup holder is handy, I would never have a drink in my car (just too risky) and so I would probably change to having a cubby hole to keep my sunglassess, insulin and car parking permit in

I have the cubby - replaced my cupholder as I would have never used them. The cubby is the perfect size for the remote display from my V1. It will not hold sunglasses, but is good for parking passes or credit card size items. Should be a standard option.

Credit card size item, is it really that small? Think it would hold an iPhone?

There is a tray that will replace the ash tray at the bottom. I have replaced the cupholder as well as the ash tray and utilize the two cubbies much more than I would have the cupholder or ash tray.

Dan can verify but I believe the lower tray part number is A 171 680 0552.

Is it a simple disconnect of the wires to the lighter once you pull out the ash tray? Do you have to terminate the wires?

Do you have any pics of the storage tray that replaces the ash tray?

Sound's about right to me mate.

coolboarder, just disconnect them from the lighter, it is a plug/socket connection so that's all it takes.

That section of the dash does contain carpet so a little electrical insulation tape wrapped over the connector to stop FOD getting at the contact's is advised.

nmslk, Imagine the ashtray over that comes with the lighter extended right across the length of the panel (it looks like the upper cubby)

nmslk, as Dan said, just imagine a drawer using all the space of the ash tray and lighter. It's about the same space offered above except as a drawer rather than a front access cubby. The bottom of the tray has a rubber pad which helps to keep things from sliding or rattling pretty well. I keep change and my garage door opener in there and rarely hear anything. I would take a picture but unfortunately left both of my cameras at my wife's house in Czech last weekend.
