Default a couple questions....

so I've been reading some posts about the smarttop module and wanted to get some opinions...How hard is to really install? I've done some things to older vehciles, but never attempted anything on my new car.... And if it is diffucult, how do i go about finding someone to install it...

For my second question...How hard is it to install the ipod integration kit... I've got the command headunit so i don't think it would be that hard, but before i go pulling the whole car apart, wanted to ask

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Thanks

James

Plenty of "how to" information on the SmartTop module. Almost all owners have completed the install themselves. Review the extensive SmartTop thread, until you're comfortable. SLKWorld members will help with your questions. You can do it. Since you have the Comand, you have the AUX input jack. Try that first and see if your happy. If not, you can find the iPod kit on eBay. Not sure what's required. I'm a satellite radio guy. Good luck.

I think the smart top is a must have.

It should only take you about 30 mins to intsall, but going slow, being careful, *upside down* and getting hot (and being nervous) it may take you about 3 hours . But its definatly a DIY type thing. I had NR4L do mine cuz after trying i just got to nervous, but i have since taken it in and out by myself after seeing how undifficult it is.

You might want to setup a SLK meet in Seattle, and asked the locals how to do it, I know there are a few Seattle/Vancouver SLKer's that has it.

Go over the threads related to the Smart top install, there are very good instructions on how to do it.
It is one of the must have mods and most of the members on the forum installed the module themselves.
It is not that hard, just make sure you read the instruction and be comfortable with it before you start taking it apart. Don't worry about the time, give yourself enough time to do it slowly. Pick a weekend that you don't need to drive the car and do it.

Goog luck and post question if you run into problem.

Try not to bust up the black plastic boxes and connectors, like I did

Smart Top is easy, though I broke the connector while trying to unplug it from the factory harness and had to improvise. Luckily, it works in any of the other empty positions.

Default Seattle SLK Group

Hey Seattleboy -

My name is Jeff and I'm an event organizer for Seattle's SLK Club.
jeff.waibel@gmail.com 425-444-5375

We get together 1-4 times a month for coffee, drives, tech days, autocross, weekend trips, concourse events, etc.

We're an eclectic group and we have enough events planned that there's always something coming up you'd be interested in.

Tomorrow (Sat Aug 9th) There's an SLK photo-shoot in Seattle at Phil Smart Mercedes on Airport Way. We're shooting for a potential Magazine Cover. Phil Smart is moving all their cars away from the big mural so we can have the space. We're meeting there at 10:30 and driving to lunch afterward. I hope you can make it.

Sunday the Local Mercedes Benz Club of America is hosting a concourse "Show-n-Shine". See this link for details:

Photos of some past SLK NW events: http://waibel.smugmug.com/

Please contact us - We'd love to drive with you!
Jeff

Seattleboy83,
It's actually not too difficult to do, though you may wanna take it slower and be careful. You will need a torx screwdriver set. And maybe a flat-head and regular screwdriver. A small flashlight helps too. I think it took me about 2 hours my first time. When I had to re-adjust it, took me about 10-15minutes in a parking lot.

Shonaslk,
If something goes wrong with your electronics and they discover it then you may be in a bit of a fiddle. However it can be set to stealth so that nobody knows it's even there.
