Dash Cams -

Hi all.
I've seen Tesco are doing a good entry level dash cam

Buy Nextbase 112 Dashcam with SD Card and Carry Case from our Dash Cams range - Tesco

I know there are obviously much better more expensive units but i want to put one in each of my 3 vehicles and hard wire them so £40 each including the memory card is a pretty good place to start.

Has anyone hard wired a dash cam in a R171 SLK if so what is the best route.

My other cars i know well and have had had dashboards out etc but the I've only just bought the SLK and this will be the first job ive done on it.

Thanks

Stuart

Seems like a good little unit. Running wires from under the dash, up the A pillar and along the top windscreen is actually not that daunting as I remember when I ran a mic for my Dynavin Head unit. I'm sure you'll find the know how on SLKW!

I've got mine hardwired in, and the power feed comes from the rear of the accessory socket .. the power cabling runs above the passenger kick panel following the existing wiring for the foot well lights, up the side of the dash behind the interior fuse box panel, up the A Pillar (again, following the existing route) and up to the dash cam which is on the left of the rear view mirror ... The Video out feed follows the same route back to the head unit ...

(Old pics attached - it's now on the other side of the mirror and therefore less visible, and the head unit has been upgraded, but you get the idea ..!!)

I fixed My Mobius Camera to the left of the rear view mirror, using this bracket:
https://www.joovuu.com/gb/mounts/248...ase-mount.html
Then ran this USB power cable behind the A pillar trim:
https://www.joovuu.com/gb/other/108-...dwire-kit.html
Tricky part is getting the cable down a small gap between the dash board & windscreen.. (Where the Tax disk use to go)

Then wired it into the cables behind the 12v power socket in the passenger foot well - Though I have since bought (but not installed) the piggy back fuse connectors, to go into the fuse box by the passenger door mirror.

One word of warning: When I tried installing My Dash Cam on the Right Hand Side of the rear view mirror, it knocked out the built in Sat Nav signal...

This has a 120° wide angle view. Not really wide angle, get a 170° angle view.
720p high-definition recording. $25 one I just bought for my wife has 1080p.

I think that you can do better for less.

Hi All

If you would like or prefer your dashcam working 24/7 & still start the engine , Try a power-magic unit easy to fit & works well , It will shut the dashcam down if your battery goes below 11.8v etc or after a preset time .

Cheers
