Default Perfect place for a GPS

Got me a Garmin 660 last month and was blown away by its quality. Tonight, I found a place that is perfect to mount it.
The only down side is that I have to lean over a bit to see the lower display window (temperature, gear, etc) Everything else is in perfect view, even though it may not seem like it from the pictures.

I don't think that's a good place for it, Lenny (nogret4life) installed it where the cup holder is. the center dash is also a better place, IMHO.

That Garmin Nuvi 660 is nice. I had one for about six months and recently sold it. The 660 has a nice, large display. Your choice of location would be better suited (perfect) for the smaller Garmin Nuvi 350. The new portables are better and easier to use than factory, but finding a suitable mounting location is a problem. Regardless, enjoy it.

I got the nuvi 660 2 weeks ago as well, and was also blown away by how well it performed. I agree that it's hard to find a place to mount them in general, but I still like it much more than spending 4x as much on a factory nav package. For me at least, it's great to be able to use it in multiple cars and when I travel every other week for business.

The center console only looks good with indash GPS system. Anything mounted on just sticks out to much and look akward when the display unit is not in use.
Here's what mine look like when it's not in use. Just a bit less obvious.
I agree with -1- that a smaller unit would be a tighter fit . The Garmin is a great unit though, even better than the one in mine IS350 and that one is great.

How long does it take to lock into a satellite at cold start? The reason I went with COMMAND/Nav, besides aesthetic, is that it always knows your location at the moment the car starts. My older portable ones sometimes would take up to 2 minutes (but I've read that the new mobile devices work much better).

The SiRF chipsets in these newer units are much faster than previous generations. Assuming you have a clear view of the sky, I connect in a matter of seconds. If there are a lot of obstructions, I've seen it take 30sec to a min, and obviously it will have trouble if there isn't really a clear view at all. On my trip out to KC on Monday, I was using it on the plane and it took a little bit to get connected the first time, but it was instant when I turned it back on 30 min later.
