Try the following: Key at position 1 or 2. Turn the wiper control unto the first stop only. The wipers will work 1x. Try squirting/spraying water unto the rain sensor part and see if the wipers work automatically.

| Grrr.... took the cover off to see the part number " A 171 820 15 26". So I already have the rain sensor! Will need to get it fixed by the dealer - still under the used car warranty... phew. Oh, and the roof does creak, I'll get them to lubricate it too. hmm... am I driving alroumi's car?? ... edit to add http://www.benzworld.org/forums/r171-slk-class/1327562-slk-rain-sensor.html |

| Was it hard to pry off the cover? I want to take mine off to see if i have the rain sensor as well but don't want to break anything.. Mine hasn't worked since I bought it second hand, but the previous owner told me the car should have it... Very frustrating.. |

| Not frustrate yourself with it as I found out mine had a loose cable, took it to the dealership the second day they handed me my SLK with the rainsensors working.

| No problems just look out for the slk and enjoy it, rainsensors should be the last thing to worry about since your wipers can start manually.

| Yes! I just tugged harder and harder, pulling away from the glass. The mirror is attached to the cover and has a power cable (for the cabin lights). When you pull the cover, you should not move more than 2 or 3 inches or the cable will take all the force. So make sure that your hand doen't jolt more than 2 or 3 inches back. The cable does knock out a bit of trim for the light cluster without any damage. When you get the cover off, the base looks like you should be able to slide the cover down and then out. Aquascape refers to that method. I wasn't keen on Aquascape's method becuse the screw driver might damage the plastic covers. Also, it is tempting to grab the mirror instead of the smooth box against the glass. I didn't do that in case it damaged/snapped the mirror swivel joint. I tried to replace the cover by sliding up and couldn't get it to budge (reverse aquascape method). So I pushed it back the way it came out. Having said that, the amount of force required does make me think I'm not doing it properly! |

Good news is new seals for me. Bad news is ... "Your car isn't compatable with the rain sensor" "Why do you say that? Its already installed" "Your car's data card from the factory says it isn't installed, so we can't retro fit it" "I know people who have done it, the part is installed, I can even tell you the STAR code to need to use" "Yes, we know the parts are there. I did ask the service guys to double check and they can't enable it if it wasn't factory fitted. Sorry" grrr..... I'll have to try the Leeds dealer, but that is the same dealership so they'll access my car's service record and see I've been refused once. They'll not want to contradict their colleagues, I guess they'll refuse again. Firstly, am I right in that this can be retro fitted? There are plenty of UK people on the net who have already done this. Second, what are the right buzzwords to persuade MBUK dealers to be sensible? Is there a page in their magic STAR manual that I can tell them to read? | |

| No magic page in the DAS sorry but it can be done and simply enough.

| I'll try phoning the service manager at Bradford, then try Leeds. Will also see if there is a local indy with an MB computer.... otherwise I'm in for a long drive down the M1, M42, M6, & M4 ! |
