Just installed and it works! However, in the process, I kind of bent one of the really thin metal pieces at the end of the smarttop black wire and the metal piece broke off. However, I managed to squeeze the metal in and hoped that there would be enough metal to metal contact for the smarttop to work and it seemingly does. However, there is a slight delay after i press the buttons 3 times. It takes a the car 2-3 seconds to respond and lower the top. I wonder if this is normal.

On the whole, however, I gotta thank SLKworld for this sticky. To all newbs like me, PLEASE READ THE THREAD it helps. I avoided a lot of trouble.

One thing I noticed, reinstalling the side panel is sometimes an issue. If your hood lever rubs against the side panel you haven't installed the side panel correctly. There's a small plastic holder than the side panel has to go under.

EDIT: I checked the little vid on the mods4cars site. It isn't really 2-3 seconds, just like a second or two before it actually starts the whole lowering process. I guess its ok. You guys think that broken wire made a difference? I mean I'm not physicist but I do know that if there's no contact the thing wouldn't work at all...

Roughly 2 seconds.

See if it (roof module) still works after some driving around in the next few day/weeks, especially after hitting some bumps. If SmartTop still works, then you're fine.

Good, it is 2 seconds then.

Good idea, I'll drive it around a bit more and see if it still works after I hit some speed bumps, though the weather up here is getting crappy and foggier now.

After 3 hours of back pain, cuts on my arm and fingers i have finally installed it. I cant believe i waited for a year before purchasing it

I couldn't figure out how to take off the accelerator pedal so i had to squeeze my fat hands on the already very small gap which took a lot more effort

Almost paid 200 AUD for an audio shop to install this for me! luckily i decided to try it by myself

IIRC, there's only one bolt that holds the accelerator pedal assembly (drive-by-wire) to the floor. It should be easy to remove.

Yeah i realize i took off the plastic cap covering it and I just couldn't unscrew it (not being able to see the thing doesn't help either)

Oh well at least i got it working, one thing i notice i was playing around with the setting and when i turned on "Chirp" what is it suppose to sound like? It seems like it sounded the same as before...

I think this only applies to 2005-2007 US spec SLK's where it uses the factory installed car alarm to do the "chirping" and not using the horn. IIRC, there was a procedure to reseat a fuse (found in fuse box at the engine compartment).
