Hi, we tried to install the Mercedes Ipod integration kit on our car but the dealer told us that the car was not compatible because it was an early production SLK 350(R171).
Does anyone have any other suggestion for a substitute?
Thanks
Yeah, what Dan asked... If it has COMAND, it should be compatible with the MB IPOD Integration kit. if it has the Audio20, then you're out of luck unless you can get someone to "tweak" the Audio20.

COMAND meaning voice comand or navigation?
In either case I don't think it has either it just came with the regular cd player and I think is prewired for cell phone.
Oh right not sure what Toyota uses but MB use MOST optics to transfer the data so its hard to add stuff on but i think you can buy a dension gateway that goes in place of the CDC that will do the job acts just like the MB kit excpet you cant control from the cluster.
Ive been led to believe all the Audio 20 post 2005 MB's has plug floating under trim for aux input lead to be fitted to glove box?
Or am I misled?

Correct but it only plays thru the speakers and does not display in the center screen below the speedometer so you can't change songs via the steering wheel button.

I'm pretty sure that Dan will confirm this, but i did a bit of research into this when I was looking into how to integrate my ipod into the SLK, and it turns out that the SLK has the only Audio 20 that DOESN'T have some wires(that you need to get a part from MB to make into a jack/plug) floating around under the trim.
It's hard to find into the car the ignition+15 cable (we found into the motor...) but it works very well (Read the song into the Audio 20 display is great!), but the wheel control doesn't work b/c it's like a aux port .. but thru rds
I read somewhere that there might be an audio level (low) issue with iPod kits. Any truth to this?
I have the MB iPod kit and the volume level was very low. I also experienced some delays in the instrument cluster display when the iPod would begin to play another song. It was taking almost two minutes to change the song name in the instrument cluster display.
After complaining to the dealer, they sent a memo to Germany. Some communication was initiated between the dealer and Stuttgart... and they decided to re-install my iPod kit without the use of some "module."
After the dealer removed some "module" from my iPod kit installation, the volume is superb and the display is working perfectly.
So at first, the iPod kit was a big let down. But once MB got it working, the iPod is all I use.
