Default Front Mount LCD Install

I decided to start a new thread to show progress on the install.

I was able to work out the 2" by removing 3 useless pieces of plastic inside the cubby hole for the cupholder.

Basically all the fitting is done, the bracket holders will attach to the old spots where the cup holder screwed in, and further down i will cover the surrounding area with some rubber inserts to hide everything.

Now i need to get 3 sets of AV RCA cables, tap into power and acc., illumination, reverse, ground the hand brake wire, and connect to the Aux.

Also need to purchase the TV antannas which i plan to hide somewhere out of site. For the TV tuner thats built in.

Another bit of feedback: the LCD has a built in RF modulator, which actually works pretty well. Thats a shocker, since i never had luck with FM modulators in the Benz before.

Here are some pics thus far of the LCD inside the cup holder slot.
And there is one with the cup holder outer cover placed in front of the LCD where it will be mounted to the screen.

The other attached file is a short video clip of the Automatic flip out screen in action. Don't mind the wires all over the place as i have not wired in the harness yet. This was just a fitment test.

Lcd_install_009.Avi.Zip by Bigupload.Com
(have to wait 30sec. then enter letters, and download)

Does anyone know of a better place to host your files, but AVI or zip file, not just pictures?

Your a genius. I don't feel the need for a LCD screen but if I do, I'll refer back to this thread

Hey easty, i have your post from the other forum on how to run a wire to my rear plate,

"I routed a wire from my rear plate to the dash last weekend for my rear laser shifter. It went through the door lid and down the vario roof arm then followed the edge of the carpet up the left hand side of the inner boot and through the rear bulkhead into the area behind the seat(it all comes apart quite easily) I used an old telescopic arial to feed the wire past the greay foam in the rear bulkhead. then ran the wire down the keft hand side under the cill and up under the footwell cover to the left. much easier than I thought it would be."

How did you get the wire through to the outside of the car? Did you go through the rear license plate lights?

I drilled a whole in opener. it was the lesser evil I thought. With the laser shifter in place the catch becomes useless anyway. I figure I want to remove the unit I
can easily fill the plastic as you cannot see under there or buy a new piece of plastic.

Some pics for you. sorry for the blur I rushed without checking if they were any good.

This is where I drilled though. The catch still works, if you can fit your little finger in to open it. I never used it anyhow.

From the catch to the mechanics

down the arm

to the bottom then back up the left inner and run along the top of the carpet. then through the bulk head.

into the cabin then along the cill.

Thanks for the tip. I may follow the same path.

I already ran all the wires from the front cup holder area to the side access panels where the fuses are on the drivers side, and pass side.

Now i have to run the Rear camera wires back, and the front camera wires, tap into Constant (+) and Acc. By then i should have the Diversity Antennas for the built in TV tuner shipped over. And will have to wire those in as well.

Default Hope to see pictures

I am eager and curious to see the step by step pictures of the install and what functions you do on the LCD. I believe this may be the touch screen type LCD. I presume you want to be able to play DVD's (car not moving of course), use the FLIR (forward looking infra red), rear view camera, and the laser/radar detectors. I don't think radar/laser jammers are legal, yeah?

I'd try to explain, but this cut/pate does it better..

How do I defend myself against LIDAR?

Introducing the new Laser Shifter ZR3 - the ultimate laser (LIDA defense system from Escort. The new Laser Shifter ZR3 is equipped with a total of three (2 front, 1 rear) laser "Shifters." These highly sensitive transceivers detect the presence of LIDAR, and respond with a pulsed laser signal in order to "Shift" or confuse the targeting LIDAR gun.

Do I need front and rear LIDAR protection?

YES! Law enforcement officers can target your vehicle from the front or the rear. Some speed traps are designed with the officer positioned on an entrance ramp, providing no visual indication of their presence. The rear sensor of the Laser Shifter ZR3 protects you from this kind of ambush.

mr linky

If you have the ZR7 unit with shifters option it all plugs into the same neat little unit.

I wish this LCD was a touch screen, but it is not. I've had some issues with my digicam and was unable to take detailed pics as i usually do in an install, however i will take some today with a friends camera and explain the sort of 1/2 way mark.

I am curious however about the Radar/Laser detector to display on screen. Is there such a thing out there that i could connect via Video In?

On the side note, a Laser Shifter is just as it sounds, it shifts the lasergun's beam so that it can not get a clear reading. This is allowed because Laser is governed by the FDA. It is Illegal to jam Radar because it is controlled by the FCC. So if you have a lot of Laser activity in your area, a shifter would be a good idea.

Ok, you are all going to make me lose my mind here... HAHA

After reading etyu's idea on the Radar detector display on screen i started searching for it...and found just the thing!

http://www.cs.unm.edu/~dolphin/V1/media/v1.wmv

V1 - connected to a car PC via a USB cable... onscreen display of the V1 alerts and Skinnable as well!

this forum is going to be the end of me... i am going to find myself sitting on a the corner of 42st & broadway with a cup asking for change to support my "SLK Modding Habits"

Looks like a carPC and V1 are now in my future upgrade list... far in the future at the moment... haha
