I considered the CarPC option, but due to the fact that i do not have a touchscreen LCD, it would be a royal pain to control. Also the bootup time, shutdown time, and not to mention the tons of extra wiring would really be a hassle for the difference between the Mediagate and a CarPC. Its already shipped... i can't wait!

http://www.gyration.com/en-US/Produc...5CKM&accshow=3 For your CarPC w/o a touchscreen LCD. Also, with a PC, you can easily hijack all your neighborhood's free wireless Internet. Just a thought. Keyboard/mouse should easily fit in your car door "side pockets". Bust it out when needed. Keep on modding. Last edited by Sid; 08-31-2006 at 12:16 AM.

| My MediaGate MG-35 arrived last night. I put a 250gig HD into in and was ready to go in about 10min time. First Impressions: This little gizmo is amazing. Interface is very simple to use, takes 4-6 sec. to fully boot up and does EVERYTHING advertised. Remote control is fairly compact yet fully functional. Connections are easy via standard AV/Component/Optical Unit was tested on a standard TV, our new Sony Bravia 46" LCD (1080i), and my 7" LCD in the car. I was able to play my Divx movies, ISO images of full DVDs, VOB DVD files, MP3s, Pictures, Mpegs. Interface is easy to read even when connected to my 7" LCD in the car. It retains the folder structure just as it appears when connected via USB or NDAS on the computer. NDAS works great as well. This is a feature where you install a small software on your computers on the network, and access the MediaGate via Ethernet Network directly like a standard hard drive in "My computer" I was also able to access my shared folders on various computers in my home network. Works very simply by selecting a folder to share on your computer, then with the MedaGate connected to a TV, you simply bowse to "Network" and it will bring up a list of computers on the network, then the folders each is sharing. There is no loss in quality when streaming from the MediaGate's internal Hard Drive, From another computer, or streaming a file from the mediagate to a computer. Video quality is excelent. My 46" LCD picked up the MediaGate as a 1080i source connected via component cables. So if your movies/dvds are ripped in good quality, it will be reproduced as such. In the car, the video quality is great and the sound through the Logic7 IS UNREAL! you can really hear the surround when playing DVDs. DVD menues work as if it was in a standard DVD player for both NTSC and PAL (as the player can be used on both systems) Overall thus far i give it a 4**** out of 5***** IR extender and Car power adapter should be in next week according to the online store. I will order those so i can mount the unit in the trunk as planned. However it is fairly small on its own. Could even come up with a place inside. No i have 250gigs of Music / Movies / Pics in the car |
