Holy moly! I just ordered the Piecha module and reading the thread I am scared ****less now! I thought I was going to ask my stereo guy to do it, but if he has never done it before! And I don't think I would trust myself to do any of it as I don't even start to understand what you are talking about.....

Its really not as hard as it sounds and the unit comes with all the instructions you will need its mostly plug and play.

Jamesbonnd007, I am mechanically challenged and was able to do it the first time (although it took almost 3 hours). Just review the links on the install several times until you can form a mental picture of the whole procedure, you should be fine. The pictures in the links are better than those that come with the module.

As I have commented elsewhere, although I am relatively handy (have remodeled bathrooms including plumbing, electrical, tub replacement, etc. and have worked a little on previous cars including balancing dual carburetor air flows and constant velocity joint replacements, etc.), I would not describe the module as a plug and play operation. It is awkward to do mostly. It isn't rocket science.

But I, for one, had a hard time figuring out how to get the cable box open and the bus connector open. Well, okay, I broke them both, but I did get it together and it works very nicely.

I found the carpet more of a nuisance to get out of the way than I anticipated. And the cable box was harder to open. The key, I think, is to push on the side of the box from the inside of the car toward the outside of the car just below the lid of the box and then lift up. I broke mine in 2 places cause I couldn't figure it out and just ripped the hell out of it cause I was p o ed. The instructions said "release the 4 clips". Not much help when you can't see how they are attached. Hopefully my description will help a little.

And I knew the connector was going to be confusing because everyone described it being ... "unusual". I inadvertently broke off the little tabs that protrude and hold the cap on. As I recall, you have to kind of slide the cap toward you and perpendicular to the whole bunch of wires. The cap has little square holes that retain the wire clips so the wires don't come loose. I finally just used a thin bladed screwdriver and gently twisted it to pry the cap perpendicular to the wires. Good luck figuring that one out. It makes sense how it works once you have it apart. Otherwise I have never seen such an oddball holding mechanism.

We need someone to make an animated movie of getting that apart

Take your time and it isn't too tough.

p.s.
Oh, and I untaped the wire harness to look through the wires to find a thinner red one that DOESN'T have a color stripe on it. Most of the stripes seemed to point to the floor so you couldn't see them in my car so be careful there.
