Why not get the Green Air Filters from SLK store? I believe they're better and less "oily" than the K&N air filters.

Hi. I just have had today my new Sport Airbox installed.
I have noticed immediately that my fuel consumption has rised very much.
Should my MB Garage remap the eeprom for better fuel consumption?

It is rised from 10 Liters/100Km (2.64 US Gallons/62 Miles) to 14 Liters/100Km (3.7 US Gallons/62 Miles)

I saw the Sport Airbox have holes in the back of the air intake... will the air be less in the engine at low RPM with this holes in the back air intake?

This increased fuel consumption upset me quite a bit.

Can anyone please help me to understand if that is normal and how to limit the fuel consumption?

Thank You for you help.
Regards
Thank You

I can't answer the question about gasoline consumption with the SportAirbox. I believe it's function is to change the sound of the engine, so it is "throatier" in quality.

If you use Green Air Filter in the normal Air Filter Box, then you will get about 2 mpg better mileage.

I really can't find anywhere the Green Filters. Here in italy only K&N filters.
Someone told me the K&N are almost the same than Green Filters.
Do you know if some web site have this filters and a good price?

Check out SLK Store at the top row menu. Price is good and I think Bill T ships overseas. Moreover, the proceeds help support this forum. PM Bill T if needed. You will need 2.

I have personal experience with the Green Air Filters on 2 cars (prior SLK 280 and the present SLK 55). They've helped me in terms of improving mileage, not to mention some increase in performance (per Fishtailnz's previous post), and no MAF issues so far.

K&N I've read somewhere is more saturated with oil and needs to be air-dried for a few days before installation and may mess up the MAF (mass air flow) sensors.

I have the KN installed for a year in my SLK without problems.

Etyu is right about the oiling. If you are going to 'recharge' it, make sure you don't overdo it, I had that expensive lesson on my C43. I would just get new filters and not try to recharge it all together.

I have the SLK280 and my consumption has always been 12L/100km from the factory. I am starting to believe these engines are not created equal, my friend got the same car with me (ordered on the same day) and when I drive her car, it is around 9.9L/100km. This is very very strange. Also my 280 is faster.

Weird! Maybe the mapping is on stage 2 instead of stage zero.

hi guys,
The sports air box....does it include a "complete" new cover (air box) or is it 2 new attachments for the air filters with backwards facing attachments.
ie. does it look very similar to original SLK350 engine cover

I am in Canada but I got this airbox from MBGTC over in Germany over a year ago. The dealerships here charge a lot for the item, I believe over 500USD. I got it shipped for less than half that price. But if you are going to deal with those guys you need to know German, the guys I dealt with do not speak English.

So the "Sport Airbox" has performance advantages over the standard US Airbox? How much hp/tq? Or is it that the Canadian/European models have a lesser standard airbox to start off with and US models won't see much of an improvement?
