Default SLK Parrot Kit Bluetooth installation w/steering wheel controls

Many have inquired about an aftermarket Bluetooth kit for the Mercedes SLK (R171). Parrot Kits, manufacturers of aftermarket Bluetooth kits for most vehicles has released a kit for the SLK. It also works with the 2002-2007 C-Class, 2004 - 2007 CLK, 2002-2007 E-Class, 2005-2007 New Style ML, 2002-2007 SL, and 2002-2007 SLK. I installed it this weekend. I'm still learning the system. It's a completely "stealth" install. Check it out.

Hey well done buddy i am real impressed. Was this the version you showed me or has it been played with slightly? when i look at the audio harness it looks complete for the 11 speakers but as i said to you all the docs said 5 and i was thrown off by it.

Either way really good work pal only thing i would mention is its better to cut and solder the CAN than tap it but apart from that A1 work i really am very impressed

I assume the stock number keypad doesn't work for dialing with this solution? Any update on getting the volume buttons to work properly? I bought the MB bluetooth puck because my car was "pre-wired" for hands-free" only to discover the rest of the hardware was $1,600... Definately looking for a better solution like yours.

Great job with the documentation, by the way. Thanks!

I have Parrot local dealer to install for me and volume buttons work perfectly. It's better deal than MB dealer can offer.

Huh? I had Comand and "pre-wired" for phone and the only thing I had to add was the puck. (well if you don't count them getting and installing the extra microphones after the fact. but that was no charge)

Here's story: I purchased mine 55AMG with premium 3 package, supposed come with prewired, and the window paper also stated prewired. However, by chance I checked with MBUSA.com and they said that mine not equipped with prewired. The definition Prewired should be all wired with adapter in the console, all you have to do is getting puck from AWS and connect by yourself. When I went back to dealer, they claimed that additional work $900.00 plus labor charge needed. I think they play some trick for the MSRP price difference.

Correct me if I'm wrong. The bluetooth option is a "dealer" installed option. Simple installation for those in the know. Many MB owners don't frequent the MB forums and don't have a clue. Simple installation and "puck" can be purchased far less than dealer cost through other sources.

DEFINATELY not saying you're wrong, but my situation is exactly like HWK's. I bought an '07 with the premium 3 package and a window sticker saying "pre-wired for handsfree", but not the $1,000 bluetooth option.

When I first bought the car, I HAD noticed that the connector was not in the armrest and asked the dealer about it. He "researched" it and said I only needed the connector and the bluetooth adapter "puck." I contacted MBUSA directly and they gave me another version of the story saying I needed the completion kit (BQ6820915.) I went to the local dealer (I bought the car out of state) who ordered the kit based on MB's recommendation and I prepared to pay the $500 in parts and labor. I had already bought the bluetooth puck on ebay. When I took it in for installation, they disassembled the vehicle and discovered I needed the core kit (BQ6820955) and microphone (BQ 4820122) in addition to the completion kit... an additional $900 parts and labor. Total, $1,500 plus the bluetooth puck. They buttoned the car back up and returned it to me...

Bottom line: in 2007, the premium package 3 "prewiring" means exactly that: all the wires are installed, but none of the hardware. If you think you want "factory" bluetooth in a new vehicle, spring for the $1,000 option because it is a deal compared to adding (the MB option) later.

I have the Star Bulletin P-I-82.70/416, so I KNOW what is involved with installing it. I had considered amassing the various parts on e-bay and installing it myself, but you have to code it into the car with Star Diagnostics which is where I hit the wall... bummer.

As said above "Pre-Wiring" means just that the harness is installed nothing else.

You need the core kit that contains the control units and the completer kit that contains mounting hardware and such like.

bchadderdon just fit it yourself and have the dealer code it for you 5 mins job at the most.

Can't dispute your first hand experience. Thanks for the clarification. Coding with the StarDiagnostic tool would have been the easiest part.

Can this kit be wired up to an SLK without command then and still use the steering wheel functions? I've had parrot kits in all my cars (usually ck3100 or 3200) but didnt want to use it in my new one as I didnt want to have a noticeable screen on display.

If you're talking about the Parrot kit, check their web site. The install I did on my wife's SLK 350 was with the HK Comand which is different from the Audio 20. Things have improved in the past 1 1/2 years. Check their site for their latest Bluetooth kits and technology.

Mike,
I installed the Parrot evolution 3000 in my '07 with the Harman Kardon system using the steering wheel controller kit and it works perfectly with the steering wheel controls. The kit monitors the control bus and when it sees a command from the steering wheel, it translates it to control signals for the Parrot unit. No parrot wired control needed. This is a pretty smooth integration for a lot less than the factory option. It does not pass any information to the command system for caller ID and does not use the radio's phone dialing keypad, but oh well.

Will the parrot kit interfere with the Smarttop module since they use the same button on the steering wheel?
Thanks

Yes sorry im talking about the parrot kit, I haven't got COMAND but, was hoping to fit this kit if it is compatible with the basic cd player in my SLK 55 AMG, has anyone tried installation to a non COMAND or Harmon Kardon unit?
