Personally I fell the screen is a bit lacking under sunlight , but not having seen any Commands , I can't really compare either , would be nice to see the two tegether under the same conditions !

This is my biggest complaint by far - direct sunlight + polarized glasses = useless.

If I remember correctly when I was in California Steve commented on how his Comand* unit had a similar issue. I think BMW with the newest 6 series was the first to nail the visibility w/ sunlight in an OEM application. Chances are it will be a few years until the aftermarket manufactures nail it as well.

*edit: I mixed up which head unit he was talking about at the time. His Comand HU is 100% legit. Sorry for the confusion.

Matt,

Actually what I told you is the Chinese head unit that I installed in the last daily driver (The Mazda) had the same issue. The Mercedes Benz Comand Unit has perfect clarity, even when in direct sun light with the top down which I find amazing.

Years ago, we used to use Panasonic Toughbooks for field data collection. They used to use a screen where, without a backlight, the display was better in direct sunlight than it was in overcast conditions. They used something called a "Transflective Display" - which would be ideal for this type of application.

Here you can read why you don't see them any more:-

Here's the reply I got from them :

" Our NU369A DayVue film will fit your display. Note that direct sun when the top is down is nearly impossible to overcome with any display technology. Our films will improve viewing under indirect bright light. You can read a report from another Mercedes owner here:

Ahhh, I got them mixed up. Sorry about the confusion Steve! How does the Fords screen perform in direct light?

At the risk of asking a stupid and possibly redundant question - did you measure the dimensions of the S100s screen area? Or did you inquire about a generic SLK headunit screen?

Chances are you did the former, but I just want to be clear so if I mention this in my final review as a solution I know it will fit.

I asked about a 7" screen with exact measurements of 155mm x 88mm !

Are you going to try it out ??
Alright, good man! I just wanted to be sure.

I may try it out, it is only $18 USD. Right now I have a lot of expenses I need to pay down since I am in the process of starting up another business, so it may need to wait.

What are your thoughts on it? I need to write my final review yet.
Well, I think it's too early to give an exaustive opinion but at the end of all I'm satisfied. I have a very good OEM look, with much more functions than the original Command at less than a 1/3 of its price. Yes, the display is very hard to be watched in direct sunlight, but it is not a last generation of AmoLED so I think is good enough. It's aligned with other aftermarket HU's. I need to play with it a little bit more, just to understand if I wasted money and time or not.
