Hi Guys, On the 2001 230K the standard cd unit is a bit poor. I originally wanted to remove the face unit and put a decent sat nav screen with cd played in the car instead, but noticed that due to the small space between the bottom buttons and the fans there isnt really enough room to fit one. Has anybody replaced the front dash or been brave enough to cut out extra space around the original stereo mount to make a bit of extra room for a good cd player or sat nav screen?

Thanks for that Gabus, looks like it could do the job - out of interest do you have one? If so when the screen flips up does it not block off your ac / fan temprature controls and fan grills? Because this is the sort of thing i have been after but the ones i have looked at in the UK are all too big and end up blocking the controls mentioned above

Hi Guys, I have been looking at this system and a competing one for a few months, just waiting to find time to install as I hope the price drops (it has). Would love to see pics. As for the screen blocking the HVAC controls, I woul dbe interested in hearing if it really is an inconvienence. BR

Nope, I don't. I almost bought one, but when I found out that all the programming (routes a.s.o.) had to be done in the car, I went for a Becker Ferrari edition navi What's really good about the AVIC is that it has gyro. It would be able to keep up in tunnels....And we got a few in Norway. An other thing. You don't need the big screen folded out when you use it as a radio/cd player. Here's a pitur:

Did you need to make any modifications to the speakers, amplifiers, etc.? What I have read mandates replacing the bose speakers that came with the car. Thanks
