Hi all, I'm a new member [and new SLK owner]. I purchased a black 2002 SLK230 Kompressor about a month ago and I'm lovin' it! I'll post pics in a few days when I can.

I've searched the forums but am unable to find any posts related to a light mod I want to accomplish.

Since there's no daytime running light function on my car, I always turn my lights on when I'm driving. I'm curious if there's a way to modify something so that I can just leave the light switch on and have the lights go off when the motor's off? I'm ususally good about remembering to turn the lights on when I start it, but sometimes I forget and I'd like to just have 'em on automatically when the engine starts.

I'm interested in this for safety, since I'm a police officer and I certainly believe it's a safer practice.

Any ideas are greatly appreciated! Thanks!

I believe if you were to purchase the SmartTop roof module there is a feature that would allow this, but I'm not sure if the SmartTop module is for the R170.

Ryan is right, the new version (3.1) of the Smart Top Module has the day time running light function. As for R170, I believe the equivalent device is called Vario Roof Module which you can do a search on this forum for more details. As far as I know, their functions are almost identical, so there is a good chance it comes with the function as well.

Can't answer your question regarding the daytime running lights. Since I spend most of my time on the Autobahn, I normally have my lights on regardless.
