I took the car in for B service and secondary air injection pump relay replacement today. When I picked it up, the cost was $0.00. Apparently my model year (2004) included maintenance at no cost for 4 years or 50,000 miles. At this rate I should get 2 more “no cost” services before I hit 50,000 or October 2008. My service adviser said they stopped this “no cost” starting in 2005 model year. Is this true? I need to drop the car off for an overnight cold soak so they can track down the squealing around the serpentine belt and pulleys. That noise happens during a cold start. I’m curious if I’ll have a cost associated with that.

And considering the cost of the vehicle and the relatively small cost of the services, I thought the fact that they included the service cost was a nice perk. Just gave a feeling that the MB was treated as above average by the manufacturer. Then they dropped the free service. Disappointing, especially so since I bought a 2006 in 2005 and hadn't heard of the policy change up till that time.

I still get free service for 3 years in Switzerland. However, with my first service (B) showing not due until 25,000km and with my average 8k per year I am unlikely to ever benefit from this.
