Default whats up with the new 2008/9 Navigation screen

I am not sure which year I was looking (the one with front broken into two pieces), but even new AMG had way smaller command/navigation screen than previous version. Any clues why is that??

Welcome Daniel Florida.

The vehicle with the "split chin" is face-lift version (model year 2009 for the US). If you can post pix then we can determine if it's Audio 20, standard audio (small screen) vs the COMAND (larger screen), optional or premium package.

I don't have a photo. It was in MB of Orlando; I went through all new models including AMG none had the "old" large screen, all had a small (I would assume that they would put the higher video/stereo version in AMG version, but even this one has a small screen).

I THOUGHT it looked smaller, but I wasn't sure. Not nice. Bigger is better

Let's see if this link shows the pix of the COMAND: http://www.mbusa.com/models/gallery/...delCode=SLK350

Click Details to see a larger photo.

Does it look like as it is illustrated at the MBUSA website? It may look smaller because of the widescreen format.

Last week I took a ride in a new 350, and the COMAND screen is - as I recall - the same width, but not as high - so a widescreen version of the "pre-facelifted" version.

Here's a couple of pictures of the 2009 Comand NAV courtesy of JBanks15. Looks like the NAV screen is the same size as previous years. His 2005 SLK 350 had the Comand NAV, he'll know for sure.

Looked to me like it was the same width, but not as "tall". Here's the only picture I have handy of a pre-facelift COMAND.

Not perfect, but if you look at the button placement on the sides of the screen, it looks "taller" to me? (eg first row of buttons even with the top of the screen?) Hard to tell given that they have removed the bottom "row" of buttons below the screen, so the LCD "sits" lower compared to a old one..

That's interesting.

It actually looks the same size to me, but that they repositioned the screen lower in the unit for some reason. The "phone" buttons under the screen in the old one are not under the screen in the new one. The screen is right at the bottom. As well, they moved the buttons up a bit to fit some new buttons over the round knobs, so that makes the screen look even lower. I suspect it's actually the same size.

I've got a facelift 09 350 with COMAND and the screen size is the same as my 350 05 model year, but the sat nav and whole audio/telematics package is much more sophisticated than before. I think it's an optical illusion because the screen is lower on the dash as one row of buttons under the old screen has been deleted on the 09 and the cd slot and SD card slot (in Europe) is located at the top.

Take some measurements if you're allowed to. length. width and diagonal.
