I'd remember reading about it when I picked up my C, but have never actually used it. Had not thought about the speed camera aspect - I usually rely on my TomTom to combat the "safety" cameras.

Nah it wont brake for it mate so no worries on the pads, computer braking actually moves the brake pedal as the diaphragm is moved in the cylinder by the BAS so thats a good giveaway to look out for (and don't rest your foot behind it!).

The pedal feel doesn't actually change because its electronic but i suppose you could say the throttle cut out gives a mushy feel, it is quite clean cut especially if you give it a real jab on the throttle it just stops dead.

I'm sorry Eddy i should have been more clear, neither the variable or the semi-fixed limiters are fitted to the US models.

I'm still unclear if the European spec SLKs have a driver-controlled speed limiter. Do they?

If I did have one of those, I would want it disabled as soon as possible. Dangerous! What if it were accidentally activated, and it became necessary for me to get out of somebody's (or some thing's) way, and I couldn't?
As i said to Eddy, the 'driver seat' controlled limits don't apply to you in the US.

For us in the EU we used to have 3 and now its 2 -

The max permissible speed that is fixed in the ECU at 155 (this was not a variable setting but not always enforced by the computer, it is now removed and the car will accelerate until the engine has no more to give).

The semi-permanent speed limiter (only fitted to some models for certain times) for winter tires that is set via the operating system and cannot be bypassed while in motion (it has high limit settings because its about protecting tires and not sticking to set speed limits), i don't use this because i am of the view that i would prefer to power out of trouble and ruin my tires than hit the limit, save my tires and crash.

The variable limit as explained by keroubim that is very useful for adjusting your max speed in areas with variable speed limits, to bypass this you simply floor the pedal so its a safe function to be using and doesn't put you in any danger.

Some people don't like the feel of cruise control because they say it takes the control away from them and i suppose in a way it does so that's when its nice to have the limiter that you can set and still be in control of your throttle setting but knowing you can't accidentally go too fast.

Mine has the limit on the stick and I use it 99% of the time While driving in town, Set it to 28mph and never have to think about my speed, I can give 100% to the road.

So easy to creep up to 33-35 mph and flash 3 points for you my son !

I never speed in town, Not even 1mph ! If a child ran out in the road and I hit it, I know in my mind, I was not speeding and could have done nothing more to help avoid it, If I was doing say 37mph I would feel to blame, So why risk it for 5 mins less travel time.

I could not live without mine now...Godsend

Ahh when I first got my license, my friend bumped the shifter over in my 320 and I realized I was in 1st gear -- it explained why my car acted like it was dying!

I was made aware of the user-adjustable speed limiter existing in other countries, when I inquired about the kickdown switch in my manual transmission SLK. It turns out that this switch serves no purpose in my car, since there is no speed limiter to override. Apparently MB didn't bother dropping the switch together with it.
