Default ISOFIX child seat?

Hi,
I need to transport my son in the front seat of my 2005 SLK 350 (not ideal option, but we'll only be going 1 mile each morning) so I guess I'm going to have to splash out on the expensive Merc seat with a transponder to deactivate the airbag - if anyone knows different please let me know.

The seat apparently supports ISOFIX (called LATCH) in the US which is the quick clip in / out attachment standard. This seems much safer than using the belt and much quicker too.

Has anyone had their seats converted to ISOFIX? I'm assuming there's a conversion process? Any real world stories, please tell!

DjP - I don't think there's actually a conversion, I think the seat is supposed to be ISOFIX compliant from the factory. I've got no kids, so I can't say I have much experience personally. On another note, you do need to check with your local police regarding children in the front seat - some areas will not allow it at all - not sure what they would expect you to do, but my sister ran into this problem in Louisiana...

This is the specific link for the options in the UK - and I'd suggest keeping an eye on ebay, I see them every once in a while.

Also have this price list, but not sure how accurate it is - >> and just talked to my SA, and your SLK already fitted with the attachment points. Take that with a grain of salt, he answered really quickly :P << Corrected by DanSLK - not true!!

Child seats/child accessories
From 8 months to age 12, the Mercedes-Benz range of child seats gives you the peace of mind that your young passengers are protected and secure. They are engineered with both comfort and safety in mind, and are certified as complying with European regulations. Their hardwearing moisture-absorbing covers can easily be removed and washed. ISOFIX is a one-click fastening system that makes the "Angel & Driver" seat quick and easyto fit. The Automatic Child Seat Recognition (ACS device automatically disarms your car's airbag when the child seat is used in the SLK-Class passenger seat.

No ISOFIX in the SLK sorry mate, its normally used in rear seats where a loop can be welded directly onto the structural shell so it doesn't really work with the mobile front seats.

You will need to use the seatbelt, thats not as good as the ISOFIX but if you fit the seat right it should be safe for him.

What about the transponder for the airbags in the SLK? Most cars have a manual switch but I can't see one in the car or mentioned in the SLK manual?

My father in law is about to get his first grandchild. He's got an E class, does he have to get a MB seat to disable the airbags?

Yeah, the dealer could disable the airbag but it opens up a world of legal issues.

To be fair to MB seats, yes they are over-priced for a car seat but they are very well made
