I just placed an order for "Leatherique 16oz. Kit".

Reading all the positive feedback online about this product (and some negative)... Just wanted to know if anyone has experience using this in their SLK?

Probably worth it to get the whole leatherique leather car care kit. Nice instructions on the site.

"Application Instructions:

Step 1. Vacuum the surface to remove loose dirt.

Step 2. Apply Rejuvinator Oil liberally (about 4 oz. per seat) with a sponge, brush or your hands. Massage the oil into all surfaces and folds of the leather. This puts natural conditioners back into the leather and forces dirt out. Park the car in the sun with the windows rolled up for as long as practical (several hours or a day). For cardboard-hard leather, several applications will be necessary. Be patient. Your efforts will be rewarded with fantastic results.

Step 3. After conditioning, the surface of the leather may be tacky, sticky, gritty or have a white haze. This is dirt, grime, pollution, skin oils, perspiration and salts that conditioning has brought to the surface. Apply Leatherique Pristine Clean with an applicator pad (we recommend our Power Scrubber Pad) and wipe with a Microfiber Cloth. For tough stains in the folds of the leather, brush with a Leather Scrub Brush then wipe with a cloth. Pristine Clean will not remove any of the conditioning oils permeated into the leather.

I never tried those but I do have the Zymol kit on order.

I used Leatherique last weekend after about 18,000 miles. The black leather on the car was pretty hard even when it was new. The Leatherique didn't make it amazingly soft or anything, but the seats do look cleaner and have less shine. I got quite a bit of dirt off the drivers seat. I guess the leather conditioning is always good though.

What works miracles on my slk is the Meguiars gold class rich leather cleaner and conditioner, I tend to condition it every month for a year until its taken for the full treatment at a local specialist shop.

It amazes me how many types of leather Mercedes has put in the different models and option packages on the SLK. On the other MB models, it seems rather constant for a particular model or "face lift". But as to leather types, the SLK is "all over the place". I can recall a certain introductory model of SLK 350 our local dealer had in stock in late '04. It was pewter in exterior color with russet brown leather seats and interior. While this special model was designated as a "breast cancer awareness model" and Mercedes made a donation to a breast cancer research organization with each one purchased (a good thing), it was a strange color combination. Also, the leather had wrinkles in it on the side bolsters just below the headrests. But it was soft (a good thing). Years after that, I saw a number of "regular" SLKs at the dealer that still had those wrinkles, but still seemed to have soft leather.

Then, I got mine in November, '07 and was happy that there were no wrinkles. Then I sat in it. Harder than cardboard leather. More like thin plywood. And also with a finish so flat it looked "dead". Others have posted about the same problem I have.

As recommended by alroumi, I have used Meguair's Gold Class Leather Cleaner and Conditioner, and it does provide some real relief from "plywood seats". And it is great on my other vehicles with leather (which did not start out like plywood).

Still, I would like to find a product that would be a "major league" softener. A permanent fix. After that, I could use the Meguair's product to maintain it.

So, I would like to hear from other owners who have used Leatherique to cure the "plywood leather" problem with reports on how well it cured the problem. And if any owner has cured this problem with another product, I'd like to hear about that too.
