| Hi All, This is my first post here. I am looking to buy a used SLK-350 for my wife. More than likely it will be a 2005 (would prefer 2006 but it depends on what comes up) and I had a question. In 2005 what options came with the 'Sports Package' and what would the premium wheels be? The sports package and 'premium wheels' seems to add about 3K to a used car, I want to make sure that the dealer is not just throwing it on there to bump up his initial price point. Are there any sites or tools out there where I can plug in a MB VIN and get all of the options that a car came with? Also, anything I should look out for with the 2005? I read that some of them had oil use problems from a leaky seal perhaps, so I have been checking underneath the cars for oil leaks. Thanks and looking forward to joining the club. |

| IIRC, the sports package (US spec) came with the body panel styling (front bumper cover, rear bumper cover and sideskirts), sport suspension and the AMG wheels. There was an oil consumption issue with the early 2005 models in that the cylinder seals didn't seat well and there was excessive engine oil consumption.

| In doing some research when I was buying my car, here are a list of packaged available in 2005. Looking at the used car auction prices when I bought mine, the AMG sport package should only add around $1000 to the price of the used car, Navigation also adds $900, but manual transmission subtracts $900. | MrAbody: Welcome aboard! For what it is worth, here are what I feel are the "priority options" for this car. Comfort pkg. Premium pkg. Entertainment pkg. Heating pkg. Lighting pkg. Heated Seats Airscarf Also, I would recommend looking for an '06 if at all possible. As a general rule, I try to avoid buying any Mercedes that is in its first model year after a total redesign, which would be the '05 in the case of the SLK 350. Though there are some very good '05s, Mercedes seems to have a problem in that it takes it about a year to get all the bugs out of all (or most all) of the cars it makes. Of course, in the US you have to get an '05 if you want manual transmission. |
