Default EuroClear sidemarkers

Seen several people mention the EuroClear sidemarkers on their SLK... what exactly are these? Also, any thoughts on whether the clear protective film thing is really worth it, and if it is whether it can be put on after you buy the car or must be put on in the factory? Thanks in advance!

I know I'm askin a lotta questions tonight but I guess I'm just too excited about this machine. I only wish I still lived on the central coast of California to drive it. I used to LOVE driving through carmel and along the coastal highway.

Clear front side maker lights replace the USA version factory amber lenses. Most here prefer the clear look. They're inexpensive and are fairly easy to install on an 2008 and earlier SLKs. Jbanks15 found his 2009 SLK 55 to be more difficult with the obstruction of one screw. Not sure if that's true with the 2009 SLK 350. I've never seen the clear protective film, can't comment pro or con. It's applied aftermarket. Personally, don't think I would be interested. Regardless where you live, enjoy your new SLK (top down) as often as possible.

Thanks for the replies. Yes that is one AMAZING drive, one of the best in the entire continental US if you ask me. Really the west coast in general is just awesome until you get to los angeles (no offense intended to LA natives, just a scenery thing).

I may look into converting the side markers myself then if that's what it is, although if there is a screw obstruction in the 350 like the 55, then I won't be doing it and will hire out. I'd hate to snarf something up on her. For some reason I thought I saw an '09 on the lot that already had clear side markers... could be mistaken.

Living in south central texas I do have one fortunate luxury, plenty of days in the 60s to low 80s with clear skies even during december, january, and febuary. While the hill country isn't as gorgeous as the west coast, it certainly has its charms and share of vistas if you know where to look. I've already planned on calling in sick my 1st work day after taking delivery haha. Pics will be forthcoming right on the tail of my 1st drive or 2 I'm sure.

Car will be garage kept, and if it starts to hail while I'm out, even if I have to leave work to move her she will be parked in an indoor garage or something. As for tornadoes, we actually don't see many of them here. I've been here 8 years now and have yet to have one come close to where I live, not to say it couldn't happen. Full coverage insurance is *some* peace of mind as far as that goes .

Actually the single BIGGEST problem we have down here as far as risk to your car is vandalism. For some reason the total butt surfers in this town like to go out and key really nice cars for no reason other than because it's a nice car. I had 4 different panels keyed on a car I had a few years back, and it was just a $20,000 coupe! Had I cought the guy he would have been eating pavement.

I just pray that my "something gets damaged within the first 6 months when I'm not even in the car" curse is lifted when I pick up the SLK. Vandalism sucks.

If you mean the clear film to stop stonechips, I used it on my 993 and it worked really well, I comes oem on the rear fenders, where the old ones had the black film.

But you can still see it.

The 09 SLK 350's only have one screw holding the clear side lens in but it is a very tight fit.

So absolutely go for the clear sidemarkers - IMHO it's the cheapest appearance "win" you can make to the car. WhiteRabbit's "white" looks awesome, and I really like the way the white (well, sliver :P) compliments my black baby.

I personally did not think it was going to make that big a difference, but I've gotten more compliments on the car from people who ask "what did you change?" after the 2 hour task. I seriously spent more time dorking around with a CNC machine making a floor jack fitting than I did changing the lights.

Regarding the side markers, can anybody direct me to a link on this board regarding how to change them out on an '07 SLK?

And regarding the front-end protective film, just be aware that some colors (such as blues and reds) will fade at a slower rate in the film covered areas than the rest of the car. So, if you have to remove the film because of a tear caused by heavy flying road debris or some minor incident, a minor airbrush pro touch-up could turn into a major problem. Also, installation is not a do-it-yourself job. The installer has to know what he/she is doing for a quality job. Otherwise, the protective film does a good job at protecting the fronts of our cars from the small stone chips that we all curse.

Hope this link helps: http://www.slkworld.com/general-modi...er-lenses.html

One can also change the front side markers without removing the wheel (presuming there's only one screw at the rear of the sidemarker bivalve assembly):

1. Turn the front wheel towards the other side.
2. Remove two silver-colored bolts located at the bottom (horizontal black plastic in front of the front wheel well).
3. Remove two black bolts at the side of the front wheel well.

This allows you to flex part of the front wheel well open and reach in to twist off the light connection, unscrew the rear Torx screw (hopefully there's only one: unlike some 2005 and 2009 SLK 55), slowly pivot open from the rear of the sidemarker bivalve assembly.
