Took my wife's C320 in for brake pads. She saw the message in the display and went right over to the MB dealer. The car has about 25K miles. After inspection, they were 'happy' to report that it only needed pads and not replacement rotors. I said that there was no warning (grinding, reduction of braking ability) to signal that the pads were overdone. The reply was that the pads needed replacement, but hadn't damaged the rotors. They told me that MB rotors need to be changed often and that by the next change of brake pads, maybe 40-50K miles, we would need new rotors on the car. So, fellow SLK owners out there with higher mileage than the 6K miles on my machine, do you regularly change rotors? Those that have other MB models, do you have to change your rotors approx. every other change of brake pads? Seems excessive to me as I've had American cars with close to 100K miles that never needed rotor replacement. Thanks!

I had my SLK 320 for 3 years and about 48000 miles. No rotors needed. Though maybe the next person needs them ![]() I suspect it is more a function of how much hard braking you do and that might happen more frequently with SLK55's.

As far as brake components are concerned, their life is mainly dependent on the driver's use of the brakes.. Some people go through the same set of pads and rotors in half the mileage compared with others.Style of driving, routes driven etc, are factors. Better brakes usually have a higher wearing rate on their sub-components

| The current 2000 BMW 323i and recently sold 1998 E320 both had rotors changed at around 40-50K miles, on their second set of brake pad change.

The SLK350 rotors are originally manufacturered by Brembo (correct me if I'm wrong), with regular driving, from my experience they last around 50/60K miles so it sounds about right.

hey guys, i've been a bit busy and haven't been stuck into the forum in a little while. However, I'd like to enquire about disc rotors as my 350 has done now around 25,000 km thats around um 15-16,000 miles? I see a lip forming on the front rotors on both sides. Its not deep and the rotors are still thick. I was wondering if I can just change the pads and change the rotors on the next service. If I change the rotors, is there anywhere on the net where i can order these rotors to save against my local mb parts work shops here in Sydney Australia? Q

Mercedes makes their rotors softer so they can stop better and still remain relatively quiet. Their rotors are also quite a bargain compared to many other luxury cars...on almost all of our MBs, we have had to change the rotors every 2 or 3 sets of brake pads.
