| Hi everyone. Another newbie here... ![]() I've taken delivery of my 09 SLK55 AMG this week that I ordered in Feb. I'm truly in love with this car. It looks great, handles phenomenal, sounds mean and has plenty of "go"! My specs are: Obsidian Black w/Red & Black Premium Leather Interior, AMG Performance Pkg., Lighting Pkg., Multimedia Pkg., Heating Pkg. and best of all the "Gas Guzzler" pkg., . Thus far, besides not having a "Mute" button on the steering wheel and voice command I'm 100% satisfied. I ordered a 2008 M3 last summer but after getting to see the first real live version that was delivered to our BMW dealership in New Orleans, I knew the SLK was the car for me and immediately placed my order! I also own a 2008 C350- Saks Fifth Avenue Edition and a 2004 Mazda RX8 in Velocity Red w/Red & Black Interior, 6MT, GT and the most mods in LA (in NOLA they call me the rotary goddess). A few pics... The day it arrived at dealership ![]() Still all wrapped up ![]() Finally home ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() The other toys ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Since I've gone photobucket copy happy- here's the 2008 Mazda3 we bought for our daughter on her 16th birthday... ![]() And our other babies... ![]() ![]() The end! |

| A Warm welcome from Kuwait and congratulations on your new SLK55 AMG 030 performance package, clearly you've got yourself a terrific car in an outstanding colour combination. I also like your W204 C-class, I assume its a great car as well.

| Congrats on the new AMG. I picked mine up last weekend and like you completely thrilled with it. Hopefully, I'll be past the break in period this weekend and then really see what it can do... Great pics |

| Thanks guys! Yes... I am very happy with both cars. I am confused about the break-in period though. I've read conflicting statements and my salesman said just keep it in automatic/comfort mode and don't use cruise control for 1k mi. Shrug... |

| Hey welcome to the site! For the break in just drive your car normally, the engine will be broken in but the transmission will be fresh so its best to avoid thing's like kickdown or 0-60 runs basically anything that will stress the tranny, normal day-to-day driving will be fine and you will end up with a tranny that performs better because it will adapt to your normal driving style and not the 'granny' style some people use for the break in. Use whatever mode you want for the box, just have a mess about with it and find what mode you prefer to use, i think most of us 55 owners use M on the road and S on the track.

| Awesome, awesome car, man... I'm totally jealous. That thing is a beaut! And you got the best exterior color sold for the SLK! Sweet choice! How do you like the red interior? Is it that bright in real life, or is it the pics? It looks really bright there! (Not that this is a bad thing, I think it looks HOT as hell) As for break-in: driving softly during break-in is one of the worst things you can do with a modern 4-cycle engine. If you're not going to give it a bit of a workout, than you'd be much better off driving normally, rather than softly. Driving a new engine softly does not allow the rings to seal properly and will reduce the longevity and performance of your engine. This was a topic discussed in great detail in one of my mechanical engineering classes, and I have used the technique successfully with more than one 4-cycle engine since that time, always with great results. Here's a link with further info: http://www.mototuneusa.com/break_in_secrets.htm |

| Just want to make it clear here we are talking about the car's transmission not it's engine, that will have been broken-in on a test stand so there is no need to mess about with it.

| Mercedes breaks in engines on a test stand? I would definitely listen to DansSLK, as he is a Mercedes mechanic (correct?), and knows what he's talking about. The info I posted strictly applies to new engine break-in, especially those without time on a dyno/stand. My experience with engine break-in has always been with new engines, a few of those being custom-built (such as the bored/stroked engine I put in my Porsche 930). If Mercedes breaks in their engines on a stand, I would follow whatever advice you get from DansSLK and/or your Mercedes dealer, as the info posted applies mainly to brand new engines with fresh cylinders. BTW, those dogs are really cute. I assume they will not be riding much in the new SLK? Heh heh. |

Mercedes-AMG break engines in on a dyno test stand and they can then be stored for month's before being installed in a shell, Mercedes only pick a few engines from each run to be dyno tested so it's an AMG thing.

| Congratulations ///Monique !! Very nice color combination. As for the break-in, follow Dan's recommendations. Use S mode also as it will use the 1st gear and cycle through all the gears.

| Yeah, you definitely did right with the two-tone interior. True roadster style. And, IMHO, there is no better color on the SLK than black. It just looks mean as hell in black. |

| Definitely get one of the plexiglass screens when you can. It makes a pretty big difference. There's a company who advertises here that makes awesome screens if you don't want to buy the Mercedes version. |
