Default Removing CD Changer in Trunk.

I believe in being prepared for anything on the road. So when I buy a car, I read the owners manual cover to cover and explore all the features of the car...one of which is how to change a flat tire. I have an '03 SLK230 and the 6 CD changer is in the trunk, mounted on the passenger side wall by the cover for the roof hydraulics. To access the spare I need to pull up the trunk carpet but the CD changer is in the way, so short of forcing it, I'd like to pop out the CD changer. Most CD changers like this have an easy quick release, but if this one does, I haven't discovered it. Anyone know how to remove this? Thanks in advance for any replies. By the way, this is an excellent site and I enjoy reading the posts! FreddieR170

Hi FreddieR170,

I just removed the CD Changer from my 02 SLK230 (should be the same setup as yours) and there is no quick-release for it. You need to unplug the wiring from the back of it, then remove 3 small screws which hold the unit to the mounting bracket. To remove the mounting bracket, you use a socket wrench to remove three bolts (one on the rear and two on the side). The one at the bottom (on the side) will require an extension on your socket wrench.

Hope that helps!

Mike

Default Thanks for the info

Hi SLK, Thanks for confirming what I thought. Seems odd to have to go to that extent to get to the spare...but I'm not complaining. I love my SLK so I won't let the little things bother me. I'll figure out a way. Thanks again. FreddieR170
