| maybe it's a stupid topic, i mean SLK is much more luxury coupe. there two car don't really compete each other. but since some of us bought AMG version..I think SPEED does count as one of important factor, for almost same amount of money, you can get GT-R. WIll you trade in your car for a GT-R? I know the look of GT-R is not that great. I know it's a Nissan... |

| What's wrong with the look and Nissan? It's an awesome car and will be even more awesome after it's out for a year and the dealers stop marking up orders 30-50K. ![]() Several of my friends wanted me to wait for it to come out and forego the SLK, but I wasn't interested. I will say I'd consider it down the road, but not for at least 2 years. |

| The thing is, you can't get the GT-R any time soon. And once you can, you won't get it for the advertised price, and if past production numbers for Nissan Skylines are any indication, perhaps you never will. In my opinion, Nissan doesn't make a penny on this car (even though they make claims to the contrary), since if they would, they would boost production way beyond the current level. It's a classical halo car that mainly serves a marketing purpose. Be it as it may. I wouldn't buy one anyway. First of all, it's got a fixed roof and second, it's huge, heavy and butt-ugly. |

| You can call it huge and heavy, but it still beats the Z06 from 0-100mph-0 for less money. And if it's not enough, there will be an even better one out in 2 years. Quote:

| Don't like the looks of the GT-R. Speed isn't important to me. Acceleration is more important. And looks and functionality (like the hardtop) are also more important. IMHO |

| no, would not consider unless it introduce a hardtop converitable version. That said, I do enjoy seeing it go head to head with all the high performance car that cost twice as much. |

Yes, it's big and heavy but it does an amazing job with just about every performance figure. Besides, a few years ago, our cars were considered heavy. Weight continues to increase as vehicles get more complex especially considering all the safety equipment. I'm quite intriqued wit the GTR. I'm always on the lookout for my replacement car. It's a credit to the SLK that I haven't found one yet. However, with proper cosmetic mods, a used '09 or '10 GTR might be in my future IF it's as entertaining to drive as the specs suggest.

HP => 532 whp and an estimated 606 hp at the crank. |

| A great car no doubt, but as other have said, I want a 'vert first and foremost. So nope, won't be trading mine on one.

![]() But seriously, I could say with a similar justification that this future track-optimized GT-R 'cannot be compared' to a common SLK. In all these performance discussions, people tend to say cars 'cannot be compared', if it fits their agenda. Strangely enough, by letting them race on the ring and publish the numbers, comparison is just what is encouraged. Now, all it takes for Nissan is to find the right definition of 'car' to claim to be fastest around the Ring. Using road legality as a criterion isn't going to cut it, unless they get specific about the countries.

Apples and oranges aside, I believe the goal for the Spec-V will be a lap time under 7:25, more than 13 seconds ahead of the current time. That would put it in front of the CCR, GT2, Carrera GT, and Zonda.

As far as road-legality of the Radical in the US is concerned, it seems there are SVA kits available.

| I'd have to actually wait to see and drive a GT-R version that is actually offered in the US, and see what its actual price is. It brings back memories of the original Accura NSX which had an MSRP of $60K US that could be had only for $110K US by the time it reached my dealer's showroom. I drove one, and it felt like the Accord (of that era) unless I really revved the engine. I said "no thanks." Then, only a few years ago, everybody was saying I needed a BMW M3, I drove one, and it felt (to me) as if I were driving a very powerful concrete block! |
