Default Cheapo GPS install

I did a little project with my cheapo Amcor A3900 GPS (see pictures). Parts used:

1) 1x Glade car air freshener housing
2) 1x Cable binder
3) Top part of the suction cup mount that came with the unit

Nice, innovative mounting solution. I've had several Garmin portable GPS units in the past. I don't like using the windshield suction mount. I ordered an aftermarket GPS vent mount. Wasn't happy with the fit, and never used. Your mounting location is perfect. Thanks for the tip.

That's a really good way of mounting a GPS/Sat Nav system, it doesn't block your view of the road

One thing I've been playing with, is mounting my TomTom on the dashboard in such a way that the image is reflected onto the windscreen (like the BMW Head-Up Display), obviously you have to use the 'flip screen' option on the TomTom.

Would that actually be readable?

BMW use a coating on the screen to refect the image correctly.

You're right about the coating DansSlk, but you could use a small piece of lightly coloured window tinting film in the area of the projection.

With a GPS/Sat Nav that adjusts the backlight according to the ambient lighting, this should help with the clarity of the image.

Hmm... Have to worry about the unit getting too cold or getting condensation from the air conditioner? Or overheating from the heater?

Yes, I guess heat could be a concern in cold weather when you turn it up high. There are still tricks you can play, though. You can stick it on a vent that you're not currently using. Some don't allow an unobstructed look at the screen, but you'll still hear the voice announcements.
