Default Fog Light Lens

Anyone have any idea why something like this would happen...and any experience in correcting? I haven't taken it apart but it looks like the lens is burned, is that possible with glass? or is the lens some plastic composite?

Thats certainly a default mate and you should prompt to have it replaced free. what queries me is why the AMG lamp on the 350? Did you get it swapped out? The non-amg spots have a replaceable cover you can take apart and swap. the AMG is a sealed unit and the whole thing will cost roughly $180

Is that the new kit mate and was it like that when it arrived?

If it was mate push the seller to replace it for you, unfortunately Merc won't warranty it unless the AMG kit is on your datacard.

Like Brian says its all sealed up so to replace is more costly than on the non-AMG unit.

I should have known better...your observations are spot on, actually the lights are from a used AMG kit that I just bought from someone on the west coast...just delivered. It came off his 350 that was upgraded later (like I intend on doing).

...I was surprised to see it like this upon arrival although I knew I was buying used body parts this wasn't expected. I have already settled with the previous owner over the damage...I was just wondering if anyone had any experience with correcting outside of purchasing a new one...which sounds like what I am going to have to do..everything else..bumper cover(s), side skirts, et al was in good shape..and considering the final adjusted price at less than $1k for the complete kit, completely worth it regardless of this damage.

Steven, good luck with the AMG kit. The lens on the fog light looks more like something spilled inside and dried. I don't believe it burnt as it appears since the lens is glass. Disassemble the light and see if the lens will clean up. Great price on the full AMG kit.

Thanks Don...I am definitely going to try and salvage if I can...Seems like they are sealed units from what Dan and Easty said...either way I am itching to get these parts on....just have to be a little patient right now...

Although sealed, you can take out the bulb, pour rubbing alcohol in, and use a long Q-tip to clean it through the bulb socket.

BTW, it's probably from using a bulb that is higher than stock wattage.

That's good info mate, I was wondering the same, but never looked at the unit that closely to see if it was possible.
