| I will be driving the SLK from Phoenix to Pebble Beach in early September. To enjoy the beautiful coastline, we are taking an extra day on the way up and back. I am seeking advice on where to stay for our overnights on the trip. On the way up, we were thinking about Santa Barbara. On the way back, possibly the St. Regis Monarch Beach resort at Dana Point with a round of golf in the morning before heading back to Phoenix. The downside to Dana Point is the driving distance from Pebble would leave us very little time to enjoy the resort the evening we arrive. Can any of our California members make alternate recommendations for my trip? We really want this to be a relaxing experience with the opportunity to take a lot of pictures as we travel the coastline. We leave for Pebble Beach on 9/5 and checkout to return home on 9/10, so those would be the nights we would like to stay somewhere nice and interesting. Thanks!!!

| Good choices, you pick some nice destinations. Pebble beach is beautiful with the best golf courses. Assuming you will drive down on a Sunday, the 9th, it's a seven hour drive non stop at the speed limit down Pacific Coast Highway (hwy 1) from Pebble Beach to Dana Point. A 12 hour Sunday drive with 5 hours stopping and gawking. You could cut another two hours off the driving time by taking the 101 out of Ventura to the 405 to the 5 down to Dana Point. |

| Great place to eat on hwy 68 off hwy 1 there in Monterey- Tarpy's Roadhouse http://www.tarpys.com/ http://maps.google.com/maps?client=s...7&iwloc=A&om=1 Roll out of the courses back up 68 and head up Hwy 1 north towards Del Monte or Monterey Pines GCs and hang a right saying on 68. I roll down there just to dine there solo or with small driving/riding groups. Cuisine fits in with Monterey and the coast. Indoor seating as well as patio. Moderately priced. Good excuse to drive that way on 68 anyway. Oh- and Pet friendly. |

| Instead of St. Regis, I'd check out the Montage Resort at Laguna Beach. The only drawback is there's no golf course, but you're right next to the beach. St Regis in Dana Point is about 3/4 mile away from the beach. There's also the Ritz Hotel in Dana Point.

I guess you all agree with my choice of stops. Now I just need to find a Santa Barbara hotel and I'll be set.
