| my wife and i just bought an 07 slk350 and since we live in california, i have to put a license plate on the front of the car. how do you place the plate in front of this car. i don't see anything to screw the plate into. i hope i don't have to drill into the front bumper. i hate this rule in california and wish i didn't have to do it but its law in california. so please let me know how you guys have done it. thanks, pimpslk |

| You have to get the bracket from MB, then drill into the bumper. a lot of us don't run with front plates...or you can try using suction cups/velcro so you can remove for shows. |

Search thread started by noregrets4life, he used compression type bolts to attach the license frame to the screen covering the air dam below the front bumper. I was thinking of 2 perforated U-shaped brackets from any home improvement store and anchor-type bolts (used to hang ceiling fixtures). This way one doesn't have to drill into the front bumper cover.

| I believe the bracket is inside your trunk, below the cover where the spare tire is. You need to drill that bracket first in order to put in the license plate. I live in california as well but I didn't put my front plate on either. I would rather take my risk but not to damage the exterior of such a nice car~! |

| Read in one of the forums (through Google) that San Francisco writes out $100 citation, but you can have police officer sign off on the citation once it is "fixed" and pay $10 as administrative fee.

| Colorado has the same law, never had a problem w/o one but we are a state that's been trying to do w/o one for awhile so the law enforcers don't really care. I have two ugly holes for Euro delivery, I filed them with nylon plugs.

| at least it's only a fix it ticket and not a moving violation (no points on the driving record).

They'd have to be pretty hard up for their #'s to stop you just for that. Most likley you'll have to worry about being stopped for something far more significant like speeding or exhibition of speed, etc.. They'd just throw the plate citation on top to pile on if you were impolite or a jerk.

| Someone I work with runs without a front plate, and dark tint on the front windows - both not allowed. If he receives a citation he shows up in court with a picture before tint and/or with a front plate bracket double side taped to the bumper. The ticket gets thrown out, as the condition has supposedly been fixed... Not a bad idea; but not something I would ever be willing to try! |

Must not be in Southern California. They will almost never let you contest this in court...you either have it fixed and signed off by an officer or court official, or they fine you. SOMETIMES... the examiner will sign your ticket off without looking at your actual car, but if you get caught trying to lie...that's a much bigger offense...better to fix it and redo it later on, or just pay the fine. Usually it's easier to just pay the fine.
