| Well, it was time for an "interim" oil change before some track time and between scheduled maintenance requirements, so I was curious about how much oil I could actually suck out of the oil pan of my SLK55 via the dipstick. I used the suction-type "Oil Changing System" sold by MBCA for $48 at https://www.mbca.org/store/prodinfo....18377674377899 Before starting, the display indicated 8.6 quarts. I was surprised that I was able to get 8.3 quarts through the dipstick as shown in the photo. Plus the old filter which I changed retained some oil. I added about 8.5 quarts which brought the level back to an indicated 8.6 quarts. I found that by jacking the car 6 inches or so at the left front, I was able to get the final amount out of the oil pan. While I wouldn't recommend this method be used every time (vs. opening the drain plugs), this seems like a reasonable easy approach for "extra" oil changes. Hmm -- now I wonder if MB uses the dipstick approach for scheduled oil changes. |
