Welcome, for the miles and apparent condition the BIN price is about what it should bring. I got a near same condition 99 with 103k for 11,500 back in March. The SLK if maintained is hardly worn at 100k but the prices drop drastically after 80k or so. Good luck with the purchase and visit often for fun and info....

Welcome autorun, the carfax shows one owner. It showed the rear tail lights have been replaced (recall). My assumption is a good buy ~15K.

Good luck with your purchase. I've purchased two used SLKs (R171s) off eBay with fantastic results. Do your homework. I wouldn't purchase without personally seeing the vehicle in person. I'm not well versed with R170 prices, but I'm impressed with how well they hold their value. Hope to see you here regularly, and soon.

Hello from Germany.

I do not know anything about the prices in the States, but if possible try to get a facelift model (up ~ 4/2000). The fenders are different, the engine, the gearbox -6-instead of 5-gear- and the seats are much better. If I would find two equal priced cars, a 230 from 1999 and a 200 from 2000 I would chose the 200.

Thanks to all that have posted. The ebay dealer is not very honest about the deal. After we have agreed upon a price, when I am ready to wire the entire amount to him 2 hours later, he decide to add another $1049 to the deal. I will not be taking the deal. I have some more newbie questions, do I need to request a VMI report from future sellers to check for problems? what would be the best bang for the buck in the 10K to 20K range? which model/engine gives least amount of problem. I like the R170 shape, does anyone near Greensboro,NC (within 200mi) have a blue or yellow or silver or red SLK for sale that is after facelift? High mile is ok, as long as it is well cared for and in good shape. Thanks to all, hopefully I can get a good SLK soon.

i can't help you with your requests at all, but i do want to welcome you to the forum. no doubt there are plenty of people here that can answer your questions.

Don´t worry about the engines. All, either 4 or 6 cylinders are good.

The best offer they can make you, would be a "Mille Miglia" edition. It´s the nicest R170 they´ve ever build in my view. Just 52 left Mercedes Benz and the decision of the color was very simple: silver . The choice of the engine was much harder: a 230 or a 320. It was build in 2002. If you get one of those, don´t wait.
