Default White side markers

I just sold a 3 month old Lotus Exige S for a new 2006 SLK55 with sport package. Car is silver. I love the 2 piece wheels with the huge rotors. I just cant understand why MB would put orange side markers on it

I am surely not the first to ask ... where can I get clear/white sidemarkers?

welcome to the forum.
thats quite a change in luxury/comfort/ a stripped out hardcore exige S to a slk55. out fo curiosity which is more fun? quicker?
you can buy a european spec front bumper has no markers in it atall. much smoother and less clustered looking.

I've been thinking about getting clear ones too, right now they are painted, and looks kinda weird w/o resistors when the lights are turned on b/c he can still see the yellow light through the paint. So what do you guys think resistors or clear side markers? (Sorry to hijack your thread)

btw, welcome to the forum

You can get it here at ~$49.99 or ebay as suggested by alroumi

I like them invisible, anything added to the side of such a purdy car stinks. Thought form a red neck who's taste is all in his mouth.

The white side markers are nice. Can you also get weft side markers? (OK, I have obviously been paying too much attention DesignoSLK and V8SLK's posts. SORRY.)

sorry...

I think the lack of side lights look cool.

Close up of clear side marker with PIAA plasma ion lamp. The yellow bulb stands out in flash photo.

During daylight, the yellow lamp is washed out and is not noticeable until one is very close.

Notice that the 3 "breather" holes are not evident. They are not truly breather holes as I've washed the car many times and moisture doesn't form. Let me know if anyone is interested on how to "hide" the breather holes and I'll post the method I used.

Where did you get the PIAA plasma ion lights from (do you have a part# too) and how did you cover up the holes?

Bought the PIAA Plasma Ion wedge 194 bulb (pat no 19173) from ttstuff.com. Here's link: http://www.ttstuff.com/Merchant2/mer...ode=PIAA-19173

To cover the holes, I used a hole puncher (standard 3-hole puncher for regular paper or stationery) to punch out the round alumminum discs from common household aluminum foil. Burnish the aluminum disc with a cotton-tip applicator (aka Q-tip) so that the disc is smooth. Place the aluminum disc shiny side towards the hole and use a wooden dowel to gently push this into the hole until it comes out flush on the other side. Since the sidemarkers are clear you can watch the progress slowly from the lens side.

The wooden dowel I used were the disposable wooden ones that you get from any fast food place (Kentucky Fired chicken or El Pollo Loco) that sells corn on the cob as the size (diameter) of the wooden dowel is just a fraction smaller than the holes in the clear side marker.

If you make a mistake or the aluminum disc didn't come out centered correctly, you can push it through and shake the defective piece out of the lens and start again.

Tools needed: 3-hole puncher with the plastic cover/catcher removed, small tweezers to handle the aluminum disc, cotton-tip applicators aka Q-tip, wooden dowel. Lots of patience needed, it took me 10 tries just to get one-hole covered to my satisfaction, other times it's 5 tries.

that's an ingenius fix for those ugly hole. i saw it in person and can tell you that you won't notice the holes unless you get up close and specifically look for them.

I wonder why they put the holes there in the first place, from manufacturing them or what?

The one at the rear is where the torx screw goes in to hold the 2 parts/halves together. The front one seems to function the same but fortunately is not used (except perhaps on the 2005 SLK 55), otherwise it's a big pain to remove the front one if there are two torx screws to each side marker. The middle hole looks like a breather hole but then there is enough open/air space around where the lamp holder twists into the sidemarker so the center third hole becomes redundant and can therefore be covered.

Moreover, the inserted aluminum foil discs are not air tight at the edges.
