Spring is here~Gummi Pflege! Lube your seals/Lithium grease your joints /hinges

It's that time of year to pay special attention to your weather seals.

I've not found anything that even comes close to Gummi Pflege for protecting them

Buy here:
http://www.1z-usa.com/products/gummi-pflege-stick.html

or Amazon:
https://www.amazon.com/nextzett-9148...shopzilla0d-20

Jbanks15 also adding these links here for roof and joints/moving parts:

Benzworld.org - Mercedes-Benz Discussion Forum - View Single Post - Lubing vario roof - pics (1)Krytox (2)grease

Benzworld.org - Mercedes-Benz Discussion Forum - View Single Post - Lubing vario roof - pics (1)Krytox (2)grease

and this from Muzu in German:
http://www.wusblum.de/fotos/slk/pfle...hmierblatt.pdf

and pics from the above pdf minus the instructions in German attached below as pdf
Use the lithium grease on joints and the gummi on seals
T1-T3 seals - gummi
T4- door latch - grease or lithium grease
M1 n M3 - grease or lithium grease
M2 = gummi
K2 gummi
K1,K3,K4 - latches and hinges - grease or lithium grease
K5,K6,K7 gummi - little bumpers
D2, roof latches - grease or lithium grease
Other Ds - if hinge, grease or lithium grease
if seal, gummi
********************
Top pics R170, bottom pdf R171 but both models have similar if not exact lube points
*************************
DO NOT USE WD-40!!! IT IS A SOLVENT. NOT A LUBRICANT
*************************
CAUTION: Whether opening or closing the roof to lubricate, ensure when done, that you let the roof continue in whatever direction it was moving when you started to finish its cycle.

I have a pot ready waiting to go, when I have a nice weekend (and my car comes back from the dealer)

Do you do the seals in the order of the photos?, how long do you leave it to dry etc?

Also do you do it all with the roof down, or do you use the 'broomstick' method to hold the roof in mid transition to get any other seals? (that's if that system works on a 170?

On the R171, the broomstick method works a treat. I've still got a load of Krytox I picked up, but the Gummi works very well, and god knows is a heck of a lot cheaper.

With the Krytox, I let it sit 45 minutes before wiping off all excess. With the Gummi, I don't think I waited that long, but it was a damned nice sunny day. Strongly recommend you pick a top-up day to lubricate!

Well said! I do all the seals with the top down. Then put it part way up and do the rest. It dries pretty fast.

Let the Gummi Pflege dry for about ten minutes. It will be slightly tacky.

It's good stuff. Store it carefully or the sponge applicator will dry out.

I agree...the Gummi is a wonderful product. Got too enthusiatic last fall and rubbed the sponged off the end of my bottle, so I'm looking for a replacement applicator. Yet another trip to the dreaded WM I guess!

Managed to get round to do these seals last weekend - they feel much softer now. Thanks for the pictures, nearly forgot some of the roof seals!

How is it different from R171 models? Does it have extra seals to be greased?

I don't think they're that different. Any 171 guys want to chime in?

If it's a rubber weather seal, go ahead and Gummi Pflege it. It won't hurt anything.

1 bottle lasts ages and ages. I apply it every few months when I remember or if I detect any kind of leak.

I have done all mine twice now. I stop the roof halfway to get at the seals. It never seems to object or show signs of sinking. Am I pushing my luck ??????

Ruben - with Gummi, I usually don't let it dry - I rub a liberal amount over the seals, then close / open a couple of times..

Krytox, on the other hand, does not evaporate, it penetrates, so you apply a very thin coat and let is sit for 30 minutes or so.
